I have just built new system Gryphon z87 + 4770k and with using DVI I can only have 1280x800 Maximum resolution! (all newest drivers, bios updated) my monitor zr30w (drivers also updated) according to the spec it should be 1920x1200. Anyone have some experience with this problem?

I have almost the same setup, and I did try out the onboard a bit, and everything detected from the get go, 1200P and all. So it's probably not the motherboard. But one thing I did notice was the drivers for the onboard can't be installed boot from it, so can't just plug in your nvidia and have everything taped away driver wise. This is probably how everything Intel works at this point but I've been on a AMD binge for the last few years. so...

Hi kwang2009, so what you did just plugged in DVI clean system install and no changes in settings at all and everything worked well for you?

I have tried now the HDMI cable also and no difference, man this is so annoying... i have updated bios to 1206 maybe this is the problem, what version you have?

I had the same exact problem with a Gigabyte G1.sniper M5 and a 4670k and a Dell 3007WFP-HC. You need an active display port adapter (or display port only if your monitor accepts display port plug, mine only has Dual-link) to use it with a monitor of that resolution from what I can tell when I researched it. I was also stuck at 1280x800. There is nothing else you can do about it, the DVI port is single link and HDMI 1.4 does not support that resolution.

Use the DVI cable that came with the monitor, which is a Dual Link DVI cable that supports 2560x1600 resolution through DVI.

The motherboard does nto support dual link, it doesn't matter what cable he uses. This limitation has been apparent on Intel chipsets since Sandy Bridge. Only the display port if it has one will be able to run that screen.

My monitor zr30w has both DVI and Display port.

According to motherboard specs here it supports:

  • DVI with max. resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
  • HDMI with max. resolution 4096 x 2160 @ 24 Hz / 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz

I already tried:
  • DVI>DVI (gives me max 1280x800)
  • bought HDMI> DVI (as hdmi has higher res in specs) tried it and still 1280x800 max

So you suggesting DVI> Display port, but specs say that if it works it will give max 1920x1200. So what should I buy HDMI> Display Port cable and try that?

It is weird that it only gives half of native res not even close to max it supposed to be able to give.

Alright so I read it through again, basically it can't be done to work, what a bull this intel gfx

Yeah, that was the conclusion I came to as well. The board has to have a display port on it for it to work, I returned that shit anyways it was horribly unstable.
