ok so i have a new case and mobo and every time i try to screw it in to the case it grounds the mobo and i cant turn it on. with the mobo just laying in the case it turns on fine but i cant secure it:confused:
 
You did use the standoffs, right?

You don't have a standoff where there's no screwhole?
 
what standoffs it didnt come with anything there are like built in feet that came with the mobo
 
Some cases have stamped-in standoffs on the motherboard tray.

OP: Look at the motherboard tray and make sure there aren't any raised areas or brass standoffs that don't line up with screw holes on the motherboard.

Yeah when I was 15, the first case mod I did was a plexiglass case I built from scratch. Needless to say, prior to that, I've never actually built a computer.

So I screwed the motherboard directly into the plexiglass ><... Needless to say the screws went right through the plexiglass and scratched whatever I laid it down on. So I put a piece of cardboard right underneath the case.. and the cardboard traveled with it where ever the case went lol .
 
Those were the days.... ABIT PX5, Pentium MMX 166 oc'd to 200, Diamond Stealth.. 32MB RAM!!!
