i hate this temptation. this temptation to crossfire. i have a ga-g33m-ds2r. for the longest time i've wanted to run crossfire on it, because i can't run sli. i had 2 8800gt's, but no sli board. it really sucked. i've gotten around to selling one 8800gt, but find it hard to go to hd38xx crossfire seeing as how it would cost $300-$400. while an 8800gs can be had for $100, a 9600gt for $130, an 8800gt for $170, and an 8800gts for $220. a 9600gt gives an hd3870 a run for it's money, but it seems that ati is refusing to lower prices. i'll probably end up selling this 8800gt also, and buying a 9600gt (bored of this KFA2 8800gt that can't oc worth a damm). any hd3850 crossfire setup will cost a good $300+, a 3870 crossfire is at least $360, and just buying an 8800gtx/9800gtx for the same price will blow that setup out of the water. hell it's a single card killing 2x midrange cards...

i'm getting very frustrated and butthurt about not having any sli matx boards, and also about radeons not pulling their weight compared to similarly priced nvidia counterparts. the only justification i see in the hd series are their integrated hdmi sound (not really worth it for me now since i just sold my 37" westy).

no reason to downgrade or upgrade, i'm just getting restless. got bored of my q6600 and 8800gt, just want something new to toy with. so if i've got about $350 bones to throw, i'm thinkin... 9800gtx, but will it really be worth it to upgrade from an 8800gt? i guess i'll just answer my own question and say that it's more than just having the next best thing, i guess i should do it, just because i'm gettin an itch to upgrade.

Nah not really, you get an average of 10FPS increase generally on the games. Sometimes a little more depending on the game and resolution. I have a 8800GT with a Q6600 and the only way I want an upgrade from my 8800GT is a 9800GX2 performance. Other than that, 8800GTS 512, 9800GTX, 3870X2 is not enough for me to upgrade to those.

haha that is the dilemna for us pc enthusiasts...

I've also noticed that ATI/AMD have resisted price drops, but just today it seems 3870s have just dropped about $20 - locally I see the Sapphire for 175CAD and the Asus for $180 after rebate.

I am in the market for a 3870, but refuse to pay premium prices (200+) when 9600gt (which is about an equal performer here and there) can easily be found for under 150, and 130 when on sale.
