Green Snow with Command & Conquer Generals

I posted this question to the C&C Generals Official Forum, but it looks like those forums are dead. So I thougt I'd give the members of the [H] a crack at it.

I've been doing some searching and haven't seen anything about this problem yet so I'm hoping I'm not the only one with this problem. I just upgraded my Radeon 9000 to an Nvidia GeForce 6800 with the new drivers 66.93. Anyway I turned up the res and I'm running it on high 1152x864. All of the different maps look great except for snow maps. The snow turns this awful lime green color. Then if I exit and go back to the menu the land on the map running in the demo has turned green as well. Just wondering if anyone else has this problems. It's a PNY Geforce 6800.

I've only tried Zero Hour but I don't seem to get anything corrupt happening in any of my other games.

Exact same problem here; note that it only seems to happen with drivers newer than 61.77 (61.77 itself works fine). I have a BFG 6800 Ultra OC and I've just today actually sent an e-mail to BFG about this issue; hopefully they can forward it to someone at nVidia as I'm certain this is a driver issue (what else could it be if ZH only fails in > 61.77).

Note that the green colour isn't the only effect of this issue. Some textures will be missing as well, like the gravel underneath train tracks.

I have the exact same problem with the 6800 Ultra and both the 66.93 and 71.25 drivers. It makes me a sad panda :(

This is definitely a driver issue because I have the exact same problem now that I've upgraded. I originally had a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and just got a XFX GeForce 6800 Ultra. I've tried drivers 66.93, 67.66 (beta), 71.20 (unofficial) and a few others but none of them fixes this problem. I never had a problem with ATI drivers showing green snow. The issue is bareable but is very distracting. The release notes on the 66.93 drivers indicate a possible fix in C&C Generals so I'm hoping to see some kinda resolution.

I do believe you are absolutely right. After doing some double checking on the offical C&C Generals website forums someone else mentioned it. The only thing that will fix it is 66.91. Heres a link: C&C Green Landscape

I installed nVidia old 61.77 drivers (dated July 24, 04) and they seem to fix all C&C issues however, these drivers seem to cause FarCry to lock up right at the beginning. If' it's not one thing it's another. So far I'm very unimpressed with nVidia's drivers. Don't think I wanted to pay that much for a newer/faster graphics card just for my games to look terrirble or lock up  . Soo this "The Way It's Meant To Be Played"?

I'll trade you for my radeon, just to play KOTOR2 without problems. :D
(Ok, given the freight costs it might be cheaper for you to just buy an identical 9800.)

A completely different place got this right many years ago: AHS, ASS. All Hardware Sucks, All Software Sucks. Just in different ways. (Sometimes even "new and interesting ways".)

Just for kicks, I contacted EA support over the issue. They want me to reinstall all my drivers because I have "ghost" drivers on my system

I take that back. I had a level which I thought was a snow level, but apparently not. General Townes' and General Leang's levels still go haywire.

Sorry for the false hope.
