Heh, I'm probably gonna be getting in way over my head here, but I might as well ask.

Having seen the Saitek Eclipse keyboard, and liking what I saw, I was really considering buying one. But, now that I know my PSU will come with a neon green fan on the back, I'm reconsidering.

The "annoying" thing is, I realized I'd be happier with a Eclipse-like keyboard, only with neon green instead of the normal blue. It'd give off a much more HUD-like feel, methinks.

So, my quesiton: Is there a neon green keyboard like this? If not... is the Eclipse itself moddable? Meaning, can you purchase a different LED.. whatever is inside it.. and swap it out? Just curious.

Oh, and sorry if this isn't exactly "case" modding..

You would have to open the keyboard up to see what kind of lights are actually used in it. If it is lit with LED's then you can just buy green LED's and replace them to match your theme. You will find that the people on this board have proven without question that anything can be modded. I have seen everything from mouse, keyboard, monitor, PC case, chairs, desks (someone toss in the obligatory $10K desk post please :D ) hell......some have even custom designed entire rooms in their homes around computers. With you wanting to mod your keyboard.....you're just scratching the surface. Post some pics to show your progress from start to finish.

Yea, well.. guess that means I'll be purchasing an Eclipse either way.

Can't hurt to try, although I'd really had to screw up a $40+ keyboard.. heh. Would now be a good time to not I have absolutely 0 modding experience and have never been artistically inclined? :p

But... yea.. unless I get some other, better suggestions, I don't suppose it'd hurt to broaden my horizons a bit..

I would suggest you take a look on the web for pictures of the inside of that keyboard. A lot of the led's used now are tiny, nearly the size of the head of a pin. If they are the smaller ones there's no easy way to mod it, you'd need a precision soldering iron and some other kit. No doubt that would run you more than the $40 you spend on the keyboard.

Without those photos or a keyboard to open and check I can't tell you anything more.

It's just SMT soldering. If you have a good quality soldering iron (Read: Temperature controlled with a very fine tip. I got mine from mpja.com and it works great. ~ $35) it shouldn't be too bad.

Err.. you guys did read the part involving 0 modding experience, right?

If it's gonna require a major overhaul and not something simple.. it'll have to wait.

Still, I'm suprised I couldn't find a modded one via google. You'd think someone capable wouldn't be happy with that blue color and change it already, ya know?

It is surprising, unless it's EL lighting (Which I doubt - EL blue is more washed out than the blue on the eclipse. It looks like LEDs). EL would be impossible to change the color short of ripping out the sheet and installing a new one - more of a pain than switching out all those LEDs. I should get one and attempt to switch it to green.

lol, i love this...

honestly it sounds like a pretty [h]ard mod. likely not worth the time\effort involved. you can do it, but do you really want to?

neat product. looks like its way too small tho. and $120 is nuts! deck boards look nice, but if it's not full size I wouldn't consider it.

Yea, I already stumbled across the Deck things whilst looking for an opened up Eclipse. Definitely not what I'm looking for.. a bit too cramped/whole thing is an awkward green instead of just shining through the keys.

It does sound like a rather.. difficult... thing to do. But then again, won't know until I void the warranty and find out, eh? Or, rather.. until someone else does ;) To me, it'd be worth it if its not going to require hellish amounts of work. Green > Blue. It just is.
