ok, ive been having some serious issues with my comp

2 days ago i was rearranging some wires etc, so i had to put the computer flat on its side, after i was done cleaning up wires i put it back up to its normal vertical position, booted and it shut down again, i booted a few more times and then i found there was a loose wire which was shorting the whole computer. So anyway, I delt with that and I started it up and i was getting TERRIBLE image corruption and i mean bad, i couldnt see anything the screen was a mix of multicoloured lines even in the bios!!!

this was intermittent, most of the time this would happen, but sometimes it would work. i figured this was a problem with the agp slot so i cleaned that and the connectors on teh card.. the problem continues. today, for some reason it can get through the bios and windows loading without getting corruption (it does get some if i wobble the card in the slot) but the moment windows load the monitor just flicks onto standby, sometimes it doesnt flick onto standby and i get just a black screen, or sometimes an EXTREMELY corrupted windows login screen

if i boot into safe mode its fine (but if i bump card or wobble it a little i get the same image corruption) and i can even boot into normal windows provided there are no drivers installed

please help me :(
 
Well I'm a little extreme, but this is what I would do-

First of all, if you have another AGP card, even if it sucks, install it instead to determine if the original card is the problem. Borrow a cheap card from someone if you have to. You must determine if the card is done or not. If the video card is indeed dead, finding this out first will be easier than trying to troubleshoot the entire rest of the machine.

If that doesn't help you, I would disassemble the entire computer (get everything out of the case), check for any loose screws in the case, then reassemble the computer. If it still doesn't work, check for loose cables. If that doesn't work then try swapping out power supplies. Sometimes you can get corruption if the power supply does not output the correct power.
 
i once had a similar problem b/c i didnt uninstall the old nvidia drivers

i had probably used 4 diff sets of beta drivers.

install an old agp card or pci.. uninstall the nvidia drivers , restart, reinstall.

try that..
never know..
 
i already reformatted but that didnt help

il try and get hold of an old card and another psu to test
 
When You rearange cables and when You are moving a case sometimes grafic card tends to go bit out of a slot with it's back end. That can complitly tilt PC or make some nasty artifacts (like nummbers and letter and colors everywhere). So try to take grafic card out and isert it and secure it proper. Then see did it help.

Grafic card can be also broken but just if You have touched it with a naked wire with voltage or with ground connection. Then grafic memory could be burned and make artifacts.

Also if wire touched mainboard then it's grafic interface could be damaged. Though that can be easyly tested with changing two grafic cards in two PC's. Like If Yours work in other PC but not in Yours and other grafic card also doesn't work in Your system it's Your system (mainboard). On other hand if Your grafic card doesn't work in other system and other grafic card works in Your system You have destroyed grfic card.
