Graphics card dead after shipping?

Hey all

So I just moved back to school and shipped my computer. I filled the inside snugly with anti-static bubble wrap to keep things from stressing the motherboard, and now that I get it here and everything is set up, I'm having a major issue.

With my 260GTX installed, the computer won't post. Everything turns on (fans, including VGA fan) but I get one long beep followed by 3 short beeps. According to the internet, on my ASUS motherboard this means that there's no graphics card found. I reseated the card, switched PCIe plugs, switched DVI ports and all the same result.

I swapped in an old 7600GT I had lying around and it fired up to the desktop with no problems. Any suggestions for me before I cash in the warranty? There were not any noticeable marks on the box or on the case when I received it, so heavy trauma is unlikely.

Thats rough. Sounds like you tried everything that I would. Sometimes crap like this just happens.
 
were you doing tri-SLi N2 benchmarking before you shipped it ?

Other than that, I would say RMA if possible.
 
Nope... It worked when I put it in the box, didn't work when I took it back out.

Blagh. How many weeks do you think the RMA will take? Perhaps it's time to upgrade to a 5850...
 
For future reference I wouldn't ship your computer with components installed. Graphics cards today are just heavy and no matter how well you pad they will put stress on itself and the mobo. Safe thing is to remove all components and remove the hsf also.
 
If it was EVGA it would take about 10 days,at least that's my experince.Do not know about MSI.
 
Make sure something didn't come loose.

I just had a similar problem last weekend. Turns out there was a piece of metal hanging off my case that was touching the bottom of the motherboard. This grounded out the motherboard and my computer would not even post and was reporting a VGA error. Took me a long time to figure this out.
 
It works with no problem with my other graphics card. Also, I placed this card in my roommate's computer and it failed to post as well.

I just handed it off to UPS. Off I go to try gaming on a 7600GT... I wonder if TF2 will work.
