When I got home frome some of my equipment was on the front porch. :D http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370576387595&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1123 http://www.ebay.com/itm/140684804589?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 any way no memory yet but I have some mix and match DDR3 Laying around and figured I would give it a try so I installed 1 CPU and 2 sticks of OCZ DDR3 1600 7-7-7-21-1T @ 1.65v the board set it to 1066Mhz 7-7-7-19 @ 1.54v which was surprising to me because I thought 1.5v was its maximum. I then installed an OS Vista Ultimate 64bit because it was handy did some testing and all was well.

I then decided to install a second CPU and used some SuperTallent DDR3 1600 7-7-7-21 @1.65v the board set this to 1333Mhz 7-7-7-21 @ 1.54v and it left the OCZ at what it originally set it at. I was a little surprised that it was able to boot and run with no problems running 2 different memory speeds on the 2 CPU's.

Any way I will play with it some more tonight and see if I can mess it up I have a coupple of days before the memory gets here. A quick question will Ubuntu 10.10 work and recognize all 4 CPU's or will I need to install a different OS.

Ubuntu 10.10 will see all four sockets with all 48 cores. Should be a nice setup

Sounds like you are well on your way.

Most of us run ubuntu on our 2P and 4P systems.

I find it hard to keep up with the youngins around here with their 4P's, but now I gotta watch out cause Grandpa has got hisself a 4P!

Nice setup, Grandpa. I bought the same SM barebones and CPUs. I thought I would get used to the whine of the fans, especially if they were in the basement. I was wrong. Very, very wrong.
If you choose not to insult your Asus ROG team by running SM hardware under the Asus flag , you are always welcome here at [H]. No need to quit your current team, just get your feet wet with the 4P running for 33. ;)

Congratulations, Grandpa_01. You helped me (Leonardo @ FF) with advice towards my multi-socket Folding upgrades, so it's your time now. Pics, please, when you can.

Congratz Grandpa, I built the same system you did a few days ago lol. Bought same chips from same vendor, LA Micro. That guy ships same day, very good seller. I'm temporarily running CAS-9, waiting on my new CAS-7 memory. With Ubuntu 10.10 and Kraken, it averages 290-300K on p6900 even with the slower RAM. I'm sure you won't be sorry you went 4P. :D

Some times us older farts need a little something new to play with too, hopefully this thing does not kick my backside. 71 lbs. It is not so easy to move around.

I have always admired the [H] you guys do it right here. No shortcuts no cheating just pure [H] folding. But at this time my goal is to try and get as many new folding members as possible to fold. That is 1 of the reasons I chose the ROG team they are a friendly bunch of people and a new folding team with allot of exposure. What better place to recruit new folders. + I am a ASUS Junkie. But if I ever do change teams the [H] is my #1 choice.

It is only going to be the stock box untill this summer when I will change it over to my HAF case and it will get a double loop.

My memory will be here tomorrow so I should have it folding pretty soon hopefully I can get Ubuntu installed for some reason it is not seeing my harddrive.

It was bad enough when all the young kids started getting 4P machines. Now its the elders. I think that means it is time for me to have a midlife crisis and buy something to affirm my manhood. Something like a 48 core folding machine.

We (yes, me too) need an "Old Guys Rule" type of T-shirt for FAH.

Hey Grandpa_01 here's an idea: get some casters for the case, add a tow bar, then you can pull it around with a power chair or scooter.

Just Kidding! Enjoy the new rig. join [H] join [H] join [H]

Well my memory finally came in yesterday and I completed my first 6903 this morning average frame time was 00:14:17 The motherboard did not recognise the Ripjaws http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231492 XMP profile and the memory is running at 9-9-9-33 1.54v instead of 7-7-7-21, what are you guys using to set the memory timings. And how would a person go about getting there hands on the modded bios that gives the 12 1/2% OC for these SuperMicro H8QGi-F boards.

I am building a pretty identical rig to yours (Mem, board & CPUs I think).
Hope you can sort the memory out, for your sake and mine :p
Lot's of folders recommend that memory and say it runs at the lower timings.
The answer is probably in this forum somewhere!
Good Luck.

Well...um, ok, I'll just leave that alone.

Hey, I'm more helpful than he is!

Seriously, it seems like if the RAM is recognized and works, all the profiles should be available, at least up to the rated memory speed of the board.

Some of us old farts with Alzheimer's! seem to have a hard time finding it. The ram is recognised at 1333Mhz and runs fine just at 9-9-9-33 instead of 7-7-7-21 which is the XMP profile. I can not seem to find any bios settings to set the timings so I am assuming they are using software or flashing the ram. Unfortunately I do not know how to do it. :(
