looking in my set-up which one would you go for? I mainly listen to movies, music and play games like nba, nfl, swat and CoH, I could get both locally but i want to get your opinions about it, I can get the ATH-AD700 for about $99+tax while the Grado is $95+tax I have a Xi-Fi soundcard that im using now and a z5500 speaker, i know my PC set-up may not measure up to drive this headphones but please keep your suggestions to this 2 headphones, i appreciate your other inputs/suggestions but please keep it civil and if u can suggest anything better on this price range please send me a link or post it too..Thanks...

I have not used the Grado, however own the A900 which is similiar to the A700. I like the A900 for both music and games and it is rather comfortable set of phones. Being closed design you have great sound isolation which is bonus for me.

Grados are an open phone so that right there makes them rather different. Most people like them for rock music but complain that they are a bit uncomfortable and being open phones you have sound leakage (people around you may complain ;)).

So you first should decide if you want an open or closed headphone.

I got the Grado SR80's from TTVJ and am very happy with them. I will say a few things though as I have used the AD700s. The Grados are NOT gaming headphones. They are excellent for Rock, Jazz, and Vocal music. They can be uncomfortable after extended periods. I ordered the Senn 414 pads yesterday and will see if those can make a difference.

I like the AD-700s (Which are open headphones..the A700's are the closed variety) and enjoyed them quite a bit for use on my computer. I ended up sticking with my DT770's though and gave the 700s to my brother-in-law.

Oh really, sorry then if I was wrong above. I was assuming the A700s were of similiar design as the A900

Actually you're assumption was correct. The A700 is similar in design to the A900. He was asking about the AD700 which is the open version of those headphones.

The grados are bad for movies and games. Add to the fact they are quite uncomfortable, and you get a headphone I would not recommend.

The Audio Technica's would be the better choice. Also, you should keep in mind the Beyerdynamic DT770pro 80ohm for 150$us. Great for movies and games.

ok i just got my beyerdynamics DT770 Pro/80 for $125.00 OTD @ guitar center in Cerritos CA FWIW... they really do price matching in there differently...LOL.. so now how do I burn this thing?

Just use them and enjoy. By burn in, most people just leave them playing music when they are not using them...... just to get some extra time on them.

Hope you enjoy them for years to come.

believe me I do hope so too, this is the most expensive cans I ever bought...

I hooked my DT770's up to a PA2V2 and turned the volume up to about 80% and played a lot of bassy techno for about three days. The DT770s were my most expensive can purchase as well and I have not regretted it so far. Next purchase will be a Gilmore Lite to replace my little PA2V2.

Dt770 are nice, but between the SR80 and AD700, I'd definetly go with the AD700 because of your interests. Grados are really good for rock music, but not much else (at least compared to Audio Technica). The AD700 is a good all around open can and doesn't require an amp.

Don't worry about it so much...... Just make sure you don't push the headphones....... as that could break them.
Just use them and enjoy them is my advice and keep in mind that the sound *may* change a little down the road.
