Hi all,

Just a simple question. I am building a presentation computer and I need at least 4 display outs. What would you suggest by best solution be?

I'd prefer the use of DVI as opposed to HDMI, and so I guess I am limited to two outs per card. Should I just buy 2 GT630's (or something similar)?

Also, is there interoperability between discrete and onboard graphics at the moment? I'll be using an Intel chip. Can I use onboard and the discrete at the same time? Is this dependent on the versions I use?

Thanks for your suggestions :)

You can use onboard and dedicated at the same time. Not sure however, if you can use multiple displays from an onboard solution.

As long as you get a card with 3 outputs and onboard graphics(i.e - 1155 i3 or better) you should be fine.

Gt 630's are on 60$... a Nvidia quadro with 4 outputs start from 300$ to up... and are just from presentations, not for professional work...

Is it possible to run two non SLI video cards for a board with no onboard video to say run 4 monitors? I never actually tried...but I assume it would be possible?

Yes it is possible to run 2 cards or more without enable SLI/Xfire as separated card, this is specially usefull for AMD users cuz in Xfire mode get dissabled the ports on the other cards both in separate can run all ports...

If its just for displaying 2d stuff, get the cheapest cards with 2 dvi ports each.

I don't think I need a professional solution. A Firepro card is probably somewhat overkill.

At the moment, I'm looking at displays to power:
  1. Main monitor
  2. Projector
  3. Stage display
  4. Live stream

They are all different. We run the main mirrored image through a Kramer splitter.

I won't be running them in SLI as I don't think there are any advantages to this approach.

In terms of how well this type of thing works with the different brands, which is better supported? Or is this really so basic that it doesn't matter?

its really not necesary to run both cards in SLI setup.. if you motherboard have couple of PCI-E ports you can connect both cards and that will work fine...

the GT630 are just perfect for your requirements, it will work fine... the brand just not matter in those terms more than the quality fabrication of the cards...
