Just been browsing FF and come across this little nugget regarding the upcoming GPU3 client and associated core. I would say that unless you are on the F@H beta test program it will be several months before we see this new core/client

judging by the wording of the text the upcoming software *MAY* redress some of the recent imbalance bewteen CPU and GPU folding
 
Yep, typical Stanford. I'm going BOINC.

I have cutting edge gpu's and can't fold. WTF! No excuse for this.

The only thing I noticed in the news article was the mention of 2x the science execution, but that doesn't mean much without knowing exactly what point structure the new WUs will implement.
 
Glad to hear that my 195.62's will still work. :)
Folding+nV drivers is such a mixed bag.

Have you thought that maybe cutting edge video cards might be useful for stuff other than folding, like maybe gaming? LOL :p
 
So basically you need 185.85 or something more recent, which shouldn't be a problem for anybody.

185.85 has been the best driver for my GSO, kinda glad it meets the requirement :D:cool:

186.16 are a little better.. doesnt have the 2 hour load time when trying to bring up the control panel..

lol you would be surprised how many people are still running the 178.xx drivers..

I don't see how you can blame Stanford for not having a client for a GPU that was just released. The GPU has been totally redesigned and the client needs to be modified to max full use of the card.

It would be like getting made at the government in 1900 for having no roads for all the new cars being made.

Sometimes the testing goes good and the client / cores gets released fast.
Other times, testing goes very very wrong and the client / cores need work.

Cause there are two options in regards to testing for F@H
  • Test for months and listen to everyone complain about how long it takes
  • Test for days and then listen to everyone compain when it fails
 
agree'd you cant really blame Pande group for the bullshit nvidia pulled.. Pande group(the actual company/group that runs F@H, not stanford) wasnt given anything to get ready for the GTX 4xx until after they were released basically.. so if your going to blame anyone, blame nvidia..
 
Why blame anyone? things take time work has to be done. natural progression.

My 5870s folded the day they came out. I just wish they would modify the current client so it could at least fold somewhat while they continue to optimize for the new architecture.

and and the 5870's GPGPU architecture didnt change all that much because F@H hasnt changed the way the client works with ATI cards which actually doesnt take advantage of the features added to the HD5k series.. on the other hand nvidia basically re-wrote the book on cuda features and what the gtx 480 will support.. thats the problem when you have to deal with CUDA as the overhead for F@H.. if cuda changes then you have to rewrite everything.. thats the problem with having to deal with software like this.. its overly complicated on the nvidia side while its as basic as it gets on the ATI side.. the GPU 3 client should take advantage of the 5k series if it really does support openCL.. but honesly they need to start taking some lessons from these boinc projects and figure out what they are doing right and what F@H is doing wrong on the ATI client..
