GPU upgrade

It's certainly a worthwhile upgrade, If you plan on getting a 2nd 7770 anyway, might you consider a single 7850/7870 instead?
 
I just bought a used 6870 for $110 shipped on in the FS/FT section. Cheaper & faster than both the 7770 and GTX 560. used prices are typically around $120 for the 6870.

yea that's what i was thinking but i remember the HD 68xx series doesn't crossfire well ?

Sure, but the budget its $140. Show me a 7950 for $140. it's implied that OP is going to buy one card now, but wants the possibility to crossfire. Budget now is $140.

"bottleneck" depends on the resolution. but yeah, you're going to get bashed for having an FX-4100.

sorry i meant thoughts not suggestion ? my res is 1920x1080 so will it be a bad bottleneck at that res ?
 
Damn man, I was literally in the EXACT same boat last week or 2 ago, I ended up getting the 6870 and am so glad I did. I was lucky enough to get one from tiger direct for $139BR and $129AR. I just checked for you and it didn't show up. I saw one on there for 145 but thats after rebate. EDIT: I might add that mine was from an 8800GTX and I was using a 4870 before that until I sold it to a friend (I needed $ and the 4870 was more valuable at the time while the 8800GTX was still fast enought to play my games) and there is an obvious performance difference, and I am using a older processor (c2d e8500 @3.6-3.8 depending on the temp in my house)

Did you change your mind about the graphics card budget of <$140? Or are you being a lil' sarcastic? :p I really think for <140 the 7770 is kinda awesome in good of a gaming experience it can provide for such little money. 6850's are under 140 are they not? if so they might be worth comparing, but there is no denying that you would have a cooler, less power hungry card going with the 7770. I almost even grabbed a 7750 over all of them because I saw a passive cooled open box for 89 bucks.

Side question: Are passively cooled gpu's more difficult to oc?

i wouldn't recommend ocing a passively cooled pu ? and no just gonna save up ?
