So my HD 4870 512mb just isn't cutting it anymore. Time to get a new GPU!

First my system specs(The important ones I think, the rest are in the sig)

- Phenom II X4 955
- Asus M4a79 Deluxe 790FX(Not to be mistaken with the M4a79T, this 1 uses DDR2 not 3)
- PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750(not MK II, original one)
- G.Skill DDR2-800 2x2gb
- Coolermaster 810 stacker(I have enough room for any cards ;))
- Samsung 23" LED 1920x1080 for gaming, Samsung 19" LCD for extended desktop
I think these are the most important/needed specs to know for GPU recommendations.

Now to my needs. Be able to max with AA and get good FPS(I prefer high Minimum FPS over High Maximum FPS) @ 1920x1080. I would like DX11 because it seems pretty nice compared to DX10. I cannot SLI on my motherboard, only crossfire so keep that in mind. The main games I play are STALKER CoP(Would def. like to max this with good FPS), BFBC2(Vietnam), Crysis(not warhead) and will be playing SOME(not a lot..) of Metro 2033.

Also, I have the option of using Watercooling if I want to. So heat and power do not concern me, its all about performance for me :).

Budget - Preferably under $300.

I have been keeping an eye on the Sales thread here and saw a GTX 295 for $190, seems pretty nice but now DX 11 :(

The GTX560 is coming out soon. It'll apparently be close to the 6950 in performance, except $260.
 
The price went up, and the free shipping is gone.

Im in the same position as you OP, got a 6950 coming in the mail today. Personally, I'd wait for some post xmas or boxing day sales and see what you can get the current line of "budget" cards for.
 
I have a 460 and I still don't like Crysis performance and I game @ 1600 x 900. Unless you go Dual i7s and GTX 580 HexSLI you probably won't be happy with Crysis just yet. :p

Will do this. Reason being I am going to get a Crosshair IV, since I get watercooling for free(MIPS blocks so not cheapo, gotta love siblings with too much money :)).

I just want a good ATI/AMD product, this HD 4870 was a let down compared to my old HD 2900PRO.

should of got the 1gb.

The 1gb 4870 that I have is amazing, still great on every game today except for the no-dx11.

Always side with more ram.

I got it over a year ago for $145. The 1gb's were still around $200 or more back then. And I was on a 19" monitor then. I got the 23" this year.
 
6870 is the best choice if you don't want to push the $300 mark. It offers a little extra performance over the GTX 460/6850, which are not perfect cards at 1920.
 
If you are going amd chip and amd chipset then stick with amd card, crossfire scaling is just epic right now. You can add another card whenever you want and it is only going to get cheaper with more competition. I have 890fx and a six core chip right now and have a gtx 480 I love the card but I am planning on getting a bigger monitor and crossfire would have helped great, now I gotta sell off the gtx 480.
