been using a 6970 but with the new build i did last summer i never put it back in, using a i5 6600
i mainly play d3 sc2 and thinking of getting into overwatch

my main concern is power consumption, i was looking at the 1050 or 1050ti, i play at 1080 but looking to get a ultrawide in the summer.

what would be a better performer then the 6970 that uses a lot less power and be able to push native res on a ultrawide @ max settings?
this is the monitor im thinking of getting

IMO if you're going to push that much resolution, you need to have at least a GTX 1060 6 GB. If you want to max everything out, you should really look at a GTX 1070. If your main concern is power consumption, both of those cards use significantly less than the AMD 6970 (250 TDP vs 120 W TDP for the 1060 and 150 W TDP for the 1070). If it were me, going to an ultrawide means I want the GTX 1070. If you stick with 1080p though, the GTX 1060 is what you'd want.

If you prefer AMD the RX480 should be good for your needs.

I had tri-fire 6970 and replaced them with a single Sapphire RX480 8GB Nitro+ OC (1342Mhz), the difference in noise and heat is amazing :)

Performance is nearly the same, tri-fire doesn't really scale well in some games and the 8GB VRAM makes a difference at higher resolutions (I use Eyefinity 3x 30" 1600p).

Mind you, if you play really demanding games the 1080ti is king especially on an ultrawide.

i might have to wait then until summer to get a video card, should be when nvidia is due to put out a new gen right?

Vega is out some time in May, last I heard (technically they have until June 30th as AMD/RTG's reports are first half of 2017). While we don't know exactly how fast or how much it will be or whether or not there are multiple SKUs, more choices cannot be amiss if you can afford to wait around two months.

by ultra wide, i assume you meant 3440x1440. The fps on that seems to be 1.6x worse than 1080p, and 1.5x better than 2160p.

For overwatch, anything from 470 or 1060 and above are good enough for ~60 fps.
