GPU Suggestsions

I am running a Shuttle box with an Athlon x2. Box #2 in my sig.
I want to add a current PCIe video card so i can run the GPU client on it.

What kind of PPD could this churn out?

Anyone have any other suggestions for a card that will fit in the limited space of the shuttle box, and get decent PPD on the GPU client?
This thing only has a 250W PSU and very limited space for the cooler to clear.

My knowledge of shuttle cases and ATI cards is VERY limited. I can't help you a whole lot other than to say Nvidia has released a smattering of cheap, low end, 9000 series cards recently. I don't know if you are going to be able to meet the requirements of high output, low power and low size with anything, but with the high output being the most objective point in there, I might suggest one of those low end cards.

Might I suggest looking here. The stream processors are the most important part I believe.<---wrong...its shaders. Sorry. I shouldn't post before coffee.

A 8800GS is a great card.

If you grab a promo code and a rebate they can be had for under 80 bucks and they don't suck up too much power.

I'm not that familiar with the "shuttle" configuration either. ATM I think nVIDIA 8xxx series cards or the "carbon copy of the 8800 gs, the 9600 gso are the best ppd producers going (ie 8800gs with 96 shaders or the 8800 gt/gtx or whatever with 112 shaders, the older 8800 cards with the g80 chip, the 9600 gso with 96 shaders, et al). I have a EVGA 8800 gs with 96 shaders and with the shaders mildly OC'ed to around 1745 it gets roughly 4500 ppd pretty consistantly (I use the free and freely downloadable Riva Tuner). Depending on the WU I've seen it go over 4800 ppd. IMHO as much as I'd like them to, the ATI cards don't take full advantage for folding of their design and that's because they haven't written a driver that is equal or better than nVIDIA's for folding.

Oh yeah, it seems like the "shader" count is where it's at for folding (you probably already figured that out from the begining of this post.

It seems to me that space and cooling are always a consideration when dealing with the "shuttle" configuration. In my experience the nVIDIA 8xxx series cards are large (at least lengthwise), I don't know the size of ATI cards

People are shoving gtx280's into shuttles (heavy mod'ing required). Many people run 88gt's off the stock PSU, though you can pick up the PC50 300w PSU for it if you are worried - FYI it's a ton quieter than the 250w.

Since I use Shuttle boxes, can tell you that the 8800GT and 8800GS work perfectly in them. Bang for the buck goes to the GS and you can knock down 4500 PPD day in and day out. Just bump up the shaders to 1800 or 1850, whatever the card will handle.

I saw on one of the links here in the DC forums showing the folding per $$$ being real high for that $20 After MIR 2600XT on the egg. I've been thinking about snagging one for my peicemeal 24x7 folder

What about the ATI 3650 series? Is there any major difference in PPD compared to the 2600XT (mentioned above)? They both have 120 stream processors and GDDR3, so they should be able to hit some nice memory o/cs. I have a P35 board, and I wonder if I could scrape up enough dough to get one, then add another...Anyone wanna buy my lightly used X1950pro so I can add to the [H]orde?
