GPU Shim on x1900 series Question

I am going to be using a flat base heatink on my x1900xt. Will it work and make proper contact with the gpu die? Will the Shim prevent it from making proper contact?

The X1900XT I had still had the shim a bit high vs the core. I popped it off, and installed my mod'd Accellero2.... I fine polished the core face of the copper.

You can tell easily, just use the edge of a credit card, lay it over the core/shim at a few angles, shine a flashlight behind and see if any light comes through over the core under the credit card. If so the SHIM is hugher than the core and will prevent good contact.

The SHIM is easy to pop off.

I want to keep the card unmodified so I can return it in any case I have an issue.(yeah I know I voided the warranty). I think if it fails the Credit card light test I will just grind down the bottom of the waterblock around where the core makes contact.
