Ok, some advice from you guys is needed. I've got a toaster here, dual core 2ghz T7250 with 2gb ram. It has the QUADRO NVS 140M video card. Yesterday I setup the gpu client and the smp client, with XP being the OS. Now I understand that XP has different results with the gpu client needing one whole core to itself, and I see that happening in the task manager. But my results have been less than expected. Usually on a 2ghz dual core I can finish an smp unit in 24 hours, but with the gpu running I am going to be taking much longer. The gpu only crunched out 9000/25000 since yesterday afternoon while the smp client was running. I've disabled the smp client for now and hopefully the results are better. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to improve this setup? I will have over 40 more of these machines to fold with and would like to maximize the points from them!

My googling taught me that the NVS 140M = 8400GS with a slightly higher memory clock (100MHz faster)

This thread indicates to me that you should be able to get about 600PPD out of the GPU2 clients at stock speed.

Not bad for a low end stock GPU in a laptop.

EVGA precision software was able to WAY OC my NVS 320m (8700m GT) and almost double my GPU PPD on that system, but it is a big 17" LT (HP 8710p) with great cooling.

Thanks relic. Any ideas on getting the smp client to crank out faster?

I wouldn't run the smp and gpu clients on XP, the gpu client on XP will use up almost 100% of one of the cores. You'd be better off running the regular client and the gpu client.

I get about 800-1000k PPD with a T8100 (2.1GHZ 3MB cache) in XP while running the GPU2 client and it makes the preferred deadlines.

Your T7250 should be able to produce similar SMP results (it is very close to the T8100 at 2GHz, 2MB cache). Although many folders say that cache does make a difference for f@h SMP. I've not been able to test that.

XP, slower dual core CPUs (with less cache then desktops) and lower end (laptop) GPUs make this a finiky configuration.

I played with mine quite a bit before I decided to OC my NVS 320m (32 shaders) to 650/1840 (core/shaders) instead of 850/1840. The PPD would go up in SMP as the PPD decreased in GPU2 when lowering my GPU OC...but the net result in PPD was the same.

That may not be the case with a NVS 140m (16 shaders)...you may be better off with one client or the other.

My setup is: T8100, 3MB, NVS 320m for reference.

What PPD do you see with the SMP on your T7250, 2MB, NVS 140m?

XP here with a quad core. I run one instance of the SMP client, one instance of the console client and one instance of the GPU client on the rig in the sig. This gives me the best PPD out of the machine for now. In your case, since it's only a dual core, you're best off figuring out if the machine will produce more PPD with the SMP client only or the GPU client and the regular console client.

When you're talking low end video cards, it may not be worth running them if they don't crank out more PPD than the SMP client will.
