Good day all boys and girls,

im in a little dilemma about a GPU replacement for my actual gaming PC, a friend of mine suggested me to ask in this forum for help so first of all Thanks ;)

So i have this 660TI which served me well, its a EVGA GTX 660TI FTW+ Model its overclocked to 1280MHZ the core and 7400mhz, a friend its offering to me a Gigabyte AMD R9 280X Windforce OC and a Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 770 for similar price. 2200us$ for the 280X and 2400us$ for the 770, yes its way expensive but its Venezuela and we have a strict currency exchange control and we have to buy all here with black market dollars so please understand I can't go higher than this tier of cards because it require tons of months of saving money..

So what do you think Guys? which will be better upgrade over my little card? if its necessary i'm gaming at 1920x1080@120hz some games and others at 2560x1440@60hz when possible, my machine at this moment its

CPU intel core i7 2600K overclocked to 4.8ghz
Motherboard: Asus p8p67 Deluxe with 16GB 1600mhz RAM
Power supply Cooler master Silent PRO M2 620W and I already have a Silent PRO M2 720W if its necessary to change the PSU..

All its under a custom water cooling setup so in a future the cards will be under water as its right now my card this card will have to serve me for a long time because its very hard to upgrade for me, which card its better and can last long?.

The 280X is a rebadged 7970, and considering that the 770 is a tiny bit faster than a 680, expect them to perform about the same. Pick whichever one you like the most.

if you want to keep the card long time and considering those huge prices save those 200$ go with the 280X.. that card its already at 1100mhz and the 770 its not nearly sensitive to overclock as its the 280X where even a 50mhz overclock can make a good difference.. AMD its making a good job with the drivers actually and i guess you will enjoy the jump to the red side, that would be my pick as games are starting to require more vRAM..

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

Yes, certainly opt for the 280X for the extra vRAM. 2GB is pushing it.

thanks for your input guys right now im leaning toward the R9 280X, I hope to see more of you giving some advice, thanks....:)

Just curious: What would happen if you took a vacation to another country and then packed a GFX card in your carry on luggage? For $2400 you could buy a round trip ticket to almost anywhere and have enough money left to purchase a GFX card.

it can be hard to explain but i'll do my best, in this country the currency exchange its extremely hard.. we have access only to up to 3000us$ annual, which are separated in 300us$ electronics to make online shopping, 2200us$ in the credit card to to shop in the world which are generally used just to buy the tickets and only 500$ in cash.. but also they are very hard to obtain, yo have to ask permission to the government to use those dollars and they decide how much they will approve to use, generally depend on where one will travel and for how much days, to have access to the full 3000us$ for example i have to travel 6+ days to very few selected countries.. thats the reason we have to buy practically all electronic things with black market dollars which are excessively expensive.. sorry if i can't post freely in this forum but the currency exchange its more or less this way 1us$ = 11.30VEF(venezuelan bolivar) that way the things are pretty accessible we can average a R9 280X in 300$ so it would be just 3390VEF (300x11.30), but in the black market each Dollar cost actually 90VEF so 300*90= 27000VEF... so, to buy this kind of things in stores we have to pay at black market dollar. officially those 27000VEF are 2389us$ and thats the price we have to pay in average in the stores without take into consideration tax and others which at the end are like 35000VEF. which are just too much for common people as the minimum wage its 4250VEF and the average of a good wage here its like 9000VEF, so 4 months without buy anything in my house or even eat just to buy a GPU its nothing good really.. xD again sorry if i can't talk about money in the forum please any Mod or admin if this its a mistake tell me and i can edit. or feel free to delete it.. =) I hope this can explain those prices Safety

For that much of a price, i'd only buy if my graphic card ended up dead and its absolutely crucial to have a new one. Heck, i will just use the igp comes with the cpu rather than buying at such price.
Personally id go with whichever cheaper given the situation you stated above.

yes the card its dead, i forgot to mention in the OP, sadly warranties here are only 1 or 2 months by the Retailers so when the card is dead we can't just RMA it... and im right using Integrated Graphics, anyway...

can anyone tell me how much can i expect from my overclocked 660TI to a R9 280X @ factory 1100mhz?.

if i want to be theoretical.. i can guess that factory overclocked 280X may perform up to 30% better than your 660TI.. take into consideration that the reference clock of the 280X its 850mhz so 250mhz overclock its a massive performance upgrade for the Radeon cards as they scale very very well... so not being a massive upgrade its a good replacement to your dead card....
