GPU Recommedation Needed - 1GB Minimum VRAM

So I play some games that are heavily modified with various eyecandy mods (Oblivion/Fallout 3) and I'm starting to, slightly, exceed the 896MB memory on my GTX275 so I am looking to upgrade to a 1GB card either NV or AMD flavor and looking for some recommendations. My current max resolution is 1920x1080. Yes, I'm a sucker for eyecandy. Any recommendations on a new card?
 
I would wait a couple of weeks to see what Caymen brings (AMD's next gen high end)
 
With a budget of 500 wait for the info on AMD's cayman (6970, single gpu). Hopefully when the 6850/6870 launches next friday they'll unveil specs and pricing on cayman too, which should be for sale in november.
 
Yeah, I am hoping for good things from Cayman but hope the wait will not be too long.
 
GTX 480 is the fastest single gpu card out right now and it fits your budget and will allow you to max out that resolution. It's also a 1.5gb video card which I'm sure doesn't hurt.

That being said the 6000 series is right around the corner and if nothing else it will force Nvidia to make price cuts so you should probably wait a little longer.

I think 5970 is faster than GTX 480.

5970 is two GPUs on one PCB. GPU does not mean videocard, it's just one component.
GF100 is the fastes GPU out as of now, even with one cluster disabled.

I would at least wait til after the 22nd. that is when the 6800 (the #700 series, fucking nvidia like renaming) but that aside there are two single cards in your budget, the 480GTX and the 5870. both provide around the same playability with the edge going to the 480GTX. its hot, noisy and rather power hungry. the only drawback of the 5870 is that crossfire in the 5800 (just the 5800 for some damn reason) doesn't scale as well as the 480. so if you plan to go dual gpu at some point then you will want to keep that in mind.

now if your going dual gpu then take a look at the 5850 or the higher end 460GTX. the 5850 is the better card but SLI scales awesomely on the 460GTX. that said the 6800 series may shake some things up so wait til friday
 
If you have a $500 budget then you want the best of the best. Wait for Cayman. Also there is a chance nvidia may release a refresh high end product in late december, although that may be too far off.
 
Thanks guys, with the recent NVIDIA price drops, I may get a 470 for now while I wait to see what happens with Cayman and the GTX580.

Well, scratch that probably. After reading the Guru3D review and seeing the 6870 performs pretty damn close to the 470 for probably the same price or a little cheaper, I think I am going to go with a 6870 at launch to satisfy my immediate needs and then see what happens with Cayman and the 580. Will also have to see what the [H] review says tonight but the 6870 is looking good for the price.

And its cooler, less power hungry, etc. Good choice!
 
HD 6870 xfire is only $480 and is faster than HD 5870 xfire, close to gtx 480 sli in some games.
 
Ordered a single 6870 two hours ago to get me by until Cayman or the 580. It's a new rig with no GPU yet so I needed something sooner than waiting. My spare 275 is going to a dedicated folding box as it doesn't have the VRAM I need.
