GPU question

How big of a difference is a 8600GT vs a 8800GTX? Is it going to be night and day? I want to be able to play games on this thing for atleast a couple of years without everything be on low settings. I also think ill be using this as a dvr of sorts when Im not using it by hooking it up to a external hdd and using a usb tuner, any problem with the 8600gt doing this compared to the gtx?

I think new releases from nvidia mobile from the gtx200 cores.

Are there any 15" laptops besides the Alienware that have a 8800GTX? I think the Alienwares looks childish so dont want one of those but like the smaller one with that gpu. If I dont go with the GTX will the 8600 or 8700 be powerful enough to record full hi-def tv from cable and put it back up on my 60"?
