OK! here is the lowdown
I'm stepping up to a GTX 295, and in the mean time I picked up a 9600GT on sale to use while my cards are in transit

When I get the 295 back, is it worth using it as a physx card or selling it off and using the GTX295 for both?

I'd just use both since the drivers work now and you may not get back what you invested in the 9600 depending on the sale price. Why waste 1/2 of your new card, give that work load over to the lower class.

Edit: I think this is what your asking. Too many 295 coming and going :p
 
well, it is worth it, but is it more important than the money you'll get from selling it? thats the question. ITs not the best Physx card, but it will keep the load off both your 295 cores (it will be on both, not just one)

your choice, depends how much Physx means to you. On some games, like UT3, Physx is simple enough to be run on the render card and only lose a little performance

If you play things like Mirrors edge or up coming cryostasis, then you'll want a sperate Physx card, as it has been shown that that is the best plan of attack, you'll see huge gains (actually, you WONT see huge loses, so its kind of a gain, errr, confusing, but just roll with me here)

Thanks! so the 9600GT is not a bad choice for a physx card? I know the 8800GT has 112SP vs 64 on the 9600.

the more the better tho, I had a 8500 GT (same as that one but renamed) and I noticed an increas moving to my 9600 GSO (16vs96)

ofcourse, the main point here is to just get the Physx off the render card

I dunno, I'd assume 128 cores is about the max, Physx is still a young tech with not much use, and far from optimized

anymore than that and youd be balancing heatn and power draw vs small performance gains, it would be iffy

There is no set limit. It all depends on how heavily PhysX is used in the game. That's why some games are fine with CPU PhysX-only, while others require a GPU to run PhysX stuff.

At this point, though, an 8800 series card or 9600+ is fine for PhysX-enabled games.
