GPU overclocking

Well i found this strange, i've been using a moderate gpu overclock on my GTX 260
It seems when i try to run my old settings on crysis the system hard locks with purple square pattern all over the screen. Is this normal for GPU's to degrade like this?

stock = 576 - 1200 - 1000

current = 618 - 1250 - 1150

old = 700 - 1250 - 1200 (unable to be run without crashing now)
 
id say its your video memory and not the gpu..

id monitor the temps see if they are going higher then normal..
 
Well i did think it was that..but sadly ive messed with the speeds of the core, shader and mem. It seems as if its both a combination of shader and mem.

I took off the side panel and ran a house fan to see if was heat. The crash happens at temp range of 70-83.
