Hello all.
I picked a mid range GPU:VTX3D RADEON HD7770 X-EDITION 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
and i am wondering if i can overclock it somehow?
ANy idea anyone?

PC Specs.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i3 3240 @ 3.40GHz 39 °C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
RAM
8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
ASRock B75 Pro3-M (CPUSocket) 36 °C

And a 650W PSU

you can use many aftermarket overclocking tools, like the one built into Catalyst, MSI Afterburner, Asus GPU Tweak, and Sapphire TriXX as examples, I like Trixx the best myself, but afterburner has more going for it(extras)where trixx is less cluttered.

with catalyst if i touch the oc even 1mhz everything freezes out.Do you know what might be the problem?

Don't want to rain on your parade, and there are others who know better than I do, but those mid-range cards don't OC worth a crap. I had a 5770, and could only get a little overclock -- I don't remember what it was now. If I tried anything serious, I got artifacting out the wazoo. I used Afterburner, maybe you'd get better results with TriXX.

This isn't directly answering your question -- but if you want good game performance, you should just upgrade your GPU. Your rig can definitely support it.

the thing is that this is a new comp and i am out of budget for any upgrades soon. This setup will keep me for 3 years at least. Then i will gather some money from my work cuz i am at college yet and i will buy a top end PC then.

I looked around, and I see that people have overclocked those 7770s. But all cards -- even those of the same brand/model -- are different, and some don't OC at all.

I played around with MSI Afterburner and kubastor but got few problems.I managed to get the 1100 clock speed to 1240 and with kombastor tests it was fine. When i lauched though a game(RIFT) my pc crashed in 2 firsts seconds.I tried to give more power at my GPU but crashes continued to happen.Any idea anyone?

I don't use kombustor as its derived from furmark and is not good for gpu as so not a realisitic load, I use heaven DX11 or better yet a handful of games, something like diablo III, and BF3 will load the gpu and cpu way differently.

Managed with amd overdrive to get at 1185 clock speed from 1100.memory speed stayed at 1250.Now if i increase it my system getting no stable thus it means that i gotta give more voltage to the card.Amd overdrive does the voltage alone or do i have to increase it manually and if yes how do i increase it?Thank you Warsam71.

powertune is the voltage boost thing in Cat center not quite the same thing as a voltage boost like MSI afterburner or sapphire trixx would have, your card may not be able to voltage boost according to various reviews I see of the vast majority of other 7770 not to mention even WITH voltage control you probably will be hitting a wall AND its voltage with temps that kill a card, just overclocking alone on stock voltage(memory aside) generally does not. and FYI that does not seem like a huge jump but is decent enough

gives
FLOPS: 1516.8 GFLOPS
Pixel Fill Rate: 18960 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 47400 MTexels/sec

compared to stock
FLOPS: 1280 GFLOPS
Pixel Fill Rate: 16000 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 40000 MTexels/sec

memory however is only 72gb/sec bandwidth so it might be worth trying a memory overclock if it will let you

dropped my clock speed from 1185 to 1175 and increased memory speed to 1280 from 1250 and my system is stable so far without changing any of the voltage.
