GPU for Warcraft @ 1920x1200, 1440?

The 980Ti or 1070 are completely out of my budget. I'm having a hard enough time justifying a $225 1060 over a $180 RX 480 8GB. In an ideal world, yes, a $350-400 1070 would be the ideal, but that's just not happening.

As for textures/ram, I watched a review of someone doing exactly what I was looking for, with a 3GB 1060. Every detail in WOW at 1080P, maxed, with 4x SSAA and 200% render scale. In raids, he was getting over 60 FPS, and VRAM usage maxed out at 2.5GB. I think I could safely get a 3GB 1060, but if I ever want to go to 1440, I'd be held back. Maybe. I game so little, I'm assuming how that would work.

I've not had a lot of experience with either manufacturer but at a $45 difference I'd get the RX 480...

The PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX 470 received a Gold Award from the [H] review but that doesn't translate necessarily to the RX 480 version being a worthy card. As it's the cheapest option of the ones listed here it's probably worth picking up to try. If you do end up getting it please revisit this thread so others can know whether or not this ended up being a good card for you. (y)
 
Wow those prices changed quick. The microcenter 1060 says 259 for me, 249 after a 10 rebate for the newegg 1060. The Microcenter red devil is only 205 though now.
 
Samson, I was just linking the product. Most of them are either openbox from Microcenter (local to me) or off Jet.com with a 15% off coupon.

OR, I can get the Sapphire from Newegg, local pickup. I'm shying away from the Sapphire though, heard the noise was unbearable.

I hope so! The extra years on the warranty sealed it for me, I just hope I get one that has the heatsink/paste properly applied. I know the binning is a lottery, so I went with the GTR to hopefully tip the odds in my favor. I'm going to underclock, undervolt, and use the silent BIOS option as it is, so hopefully it works out smooth.
 
FWIW I run WoW at 2560x1080 on a 2700k @ 4.6ghz and a 980ti using Nvidia suggested settings, which is over '10' and I can keep a stable frame rate over 75 in most areas. It will drop into the 40's though in highly populated areas though but thats just what happens. I had a gtx580 and that could play over 60fps at like 7 setting at 1920x1080, but when I went to ultra wide the it would choke and drop to 30fps because it only had 1.5gb vram
 
So I've got this card up and running, but I have a small nagging issue, maybe you guys know what's going on here. When I wake the computer from sleep, there's snow on the screen (complete snow, no desktop whatsoever) for about 2 seconds, then it jumps right to the desktop like normal.

Anything I should be concerned about?
 
It sounds like it's hanging on to its video buffer for a couple of seconds before releasing it. I don't experience those issues with my card but I don't have an RX 480. Any 480 owners out there want to weigh in?

Nothing else is wrong, correct? Plays just fine otherwise? Does it make a whining noise whilst switching?
 
No whining. I just woke it and it was showing snow for a while though. Maybe 10-15 seconds? Very odd.
 
Go with an Nvidia card, heard about lots of stuttering with the AMD RX line in WoW.
 
Well shit. Alright. Let me see if I can RMA directly with Newegg. I bought it through Jet.com, but Newegg's warehouse is literally 20 minutes from me.
 
Full 60 FPS in raids, with every setting maxed out. Did nighthold last night with it.
 
i do a fair amount of raiding,

my gtx 1060 6gb mini did fine for 1920x1080 max everything, never noticed stutters and sat 50-90fps world , 30-50 in crazy raids

however at 3440x1440 i had to drop the shadows, ground flutter 1 notch and draw distance a bit and 4x msaa to get decent rates which sit 40-60 world, 30-50 in raids with the odd dip on fps on heroic goroth and sisters, mistress. sights with ridiculous clutter

planning on a vega 56 since my monitor is freesync and it should be a little faster than the 1060 from what ive seen
 
sadly WoW is horribly optimized, as it's performance is bound to 1 core of cpu as far as i can tell from what players say and my own experience. my 1080ti was sitting at idle clocks 50% gpu load same with my 980ti. running with 5820k.. 4,4 ghz @ 1440p so single core performance is very important for wow. raids are a nightmare, atleast NH was. extremely physics dependant in raids where so much is happening at the same time. for questing most zones were fine max settings, but still it wouldnt load my gpu more then 50%. same in raids xD only thing i could do was set res scale high then it would start loading gpu, but it got me nowhere really. i could run lowest setting and i still wouldnt get a good avg. fps in raid. so i guess a decent gfx card with 7700k or 6700k is ideal with a nice OC to it purely for wow anyway.
 
980ti is probably a steal used. and it's sligth better then a 1070 except for vram ++ if in good condition. but like i said it was mostly at 50% load for me so it wasnt used to it's full potetial anyway XD

Wow uses two cpu cores and will use 100% of my 980ti with my 6700k.
 
then you cant run 100% res scale??? i really did test alot and looked at gpu usage.. i cant go in a new zone and test atm but.. as i wont pay to or use one of the tokens in my bags xD im having break from wow after 50 ish days played from launch. only thing then what is really must be addon to interfere? seems unlikely? idk. and i got everything updated and all. just check of gpu usage box if using afterburner, look in game at 100% res scale, not running a resolution higher then 1440p. i could be wrong but i dont think so, if that is the case then there must be something wrong on my end but it didnt apear that way to me. and for the part about 1 core usage look at each individual core usage and u will se one core beeing near 100% and rest of the cores not fully loaded.

anyway go ahead replicate my result it is possible. i was kind of in disbelief when i discover this myself. and there is a few post in wow forums about it also. this game is running on a 10+ year engine. legion look great. but when in raid u can set all settings to 1 and with 1440p with a 980ti and have 50% load on gpu and console fps xD typical sign of cpu bottlneck to my knowledge.
