GPU Folding on a Single Core system

Hey guys:
I currently have a single core opteron (146, clocked to 2.5ghz) system, and a Sapphire X1950pro GPU, with both folding. I'm running the console GPU and CPU clients. In both, I have them set to use idle CPU time, and both are set to 100%CPU utilization.

My issue is this: my GPU client is taking a long time per frame (23min). If I shut down the CPU client, the time per frame drops to roughly 8min/frame. What can I do to speed the GPU client's folding time?

Any suggestions?

Set the CPU utilization of the CPU client down bit by bit (5% decreases? start at like 80%), until you start seeing your total cpu usage not being maxed out.. basically you want to keep the CPU as maxed out on the CPU client without choking the GPU client.

I tried that little trick on my 4400x2 but with 2 cpu clients and one gpu client running. i found the GPU client could not get a word in with the cpu clients running, as the above poster mentioned its all about balance. you may also want to try just running the gpu client to see if the PPD is better overall.

if you set the GPU priority to low (not idle) it ought to suck the amount of CPU that it requires, provided that your CPU client(s) are at idle priority.

I've just set the GPU client up on a dual core machine, and am running one CPU instance and one GPU. I lose 120-250 pts for the one core, but gain 760pts/day from the GPU client. Total machine output ought to be 860-1000 pts/day.
