GPU Farm at OC.net

Too bad nitteo didn't defect from OCF to here :(

Looks like nitteo has been hanging out with assman. Nice farm.

The nice thing about that setup is the PpDpW... they are pushing the 50 range... I would guess with a quad gpu setup. The only real problem I see with his setup is if they ever drop the points on the GPU client he is screwed. I think your long term strategy should be diversification across platforms, cpu, nvidia, ati. I intend on mixing up ati gpus in my farm once they make the 40 PpDpW range on par or exceed nvidia. This way I have a good mix. Eventually I may even play with VMs again and linux.

I read about his departure both here and here.

OC.net was his old hangout and he decided that his presence would best support the folding community over there instead of OC.com.

Wow. Just....wow.

That looks like quite the heater there. Lol, I get looked at funny by my gf/roommate when I want to leave the computer running for the weekend if I go out of town. Some of you must have much more understanding family/friends. The word hobby doesn't register well with a lot of people I talk to.

We've been egging each other on for the last few weeks...

I am a little worried about a points adjustment...but I guess I will cross that bridge when it comes by.

BTW, My setup is with a "cheapo" e2180/e6300/e6400 c2d in Vista. The smallest PSU I use is an Antec Earthwatt 430w and is powering an e2180/1GB Ram/HD/4x 8800GT just fine.

OCN is where I first got into OCing/Benching/Folding.

I truly believe that the best thing that happened for Folding in OCN is GPU2. We have a large # of members who game and have high-end cards. Hopefully we can convince most of them to fold.

I have to agree with other comments made ..

1) It is really nice Setup (Good Design and Execution)
2) If the nVidia Client PPD drop ... boom ...

I also feel that diversification is important.
Have some running Linux ... some GPU2 + Win Clients ..

But that the moment, that is one awesome setup for PPD.
Wonder what kind of power draw that farm has.

From the numbers posted there, he spend around $6000 in Video Cards Alone

Hey nitteo --- glad to have you folding for a cure! you rock!

Come back and update this thread when you get them all folding.

How much do you pay per month for electricity?

I can buy a PS3 every month. Houston has THE highest rates of electricity in the country right now.

Yeah, that sucks a butt. Im in the market for an apt in The Woodlands and Tomball area :(
E2160 + 4850, P4 3.4, Celly 2.8, TL-56 Lappy will probably draw some annoyingly high power per point :(

I need Quads and 8800's!

Completely forgot:

I call chop!

That is a work of beauty Nitteo. Now if you'll all excuse me, the [H]ard recon team is about to make a little road trip....

With that setup, you're only paying $400 a month for electricity?

Only? That seems like a pretty big number to me! :p

The thing about it is that he's not using extremely powerful powers supplys. He calculated everything, and somehow 1 of those rigs with 4 gpu's runs on a 500w power supply.

Anyway, props to Nitteo for taking up such a huge project. I fold for OCN but have been pretty out of it. Time to get my E1200 up again, if that does anything...

Plenty of us around here pay that or much more for electricity every month. Size of the power supply won't matter, efficiency does, but it's still only going to pull from the wall what it uses.

Another thing to consider is that the computers are in his office. In a home, where most of us run our rigs, you have other things to power such as televisions, refrigerators, lights, etc. He's probably in his office for 8 or so hours a day, then just leaves the computer on over night.

I just saw over at OCAU that ASSMAN just called out nitteo. This should be a good one. :D

An intensified rivalry between them will catapult OCAU to even higher levels of production providing ASSMAN has anymore left.

I don't think he would have thrown down a gauntlet if he didn't have any more left.

/drags up chair and puts the popcorn on.

Awesome... bloodsports on someone elses stage.

Who brought the beer?

Very pretty setup.
Well done, I admire the dedication. (if not the bills) :)
Thanks for coming by to visit.

Impressive and great pr0n, same for ASSM@N's setup I saw recently (over 30 GPU as well).
