Problem: was playing sc2 screen went blank and said no signal. Went to reboot and video card fan was spinning at 100% all other fans normal and still getting no signal to monitor/post.

I have asked on another forum and searched all over for similar problems and can't solve the issue. Things I have tried:
-disconnecting everything and dusting/cleaning then reseating a checking wires.
-taking cmos battery out to reset BIOS
-gave in yesterday and bought new mobo switched everything and had same problem.
-new mobo has onboard video(gigabyte 880 2dh) so I still have the option to try without my video card, I just got so frustrated and went to sleep last night!.

System:
-amd Phenom ii 955 BE
-gigabyte ma790fx ud5p mobo
-his hd4890
-ocz 2x2 ddr3 1600
-ocz modXstream pro 700w
-wd 640gb 7200 32mb cache
-antec 902 case
-lg DVD burner

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Try without the video card. I have a feeling that your video card went to GPU heaven. Also, see if you can test your power supply voltage levels and connectors for discoloration. Do you have another vid card to test out the motherboard?

Just thought about this; maybe the card isnt posting properly in its own BIOS. Not sure if flashing the firmware is a viable option right now.

One of the problem's I have is the lack of parts to swap to try out. I'm not sure how I would flash the fireware for the video card. It weird because all of this happened out of the blue normal day of gaming and nothing has been touched In months.

I just tried without the graphics card and had no luck. Though is was much quieter without the tornado inside :(. Still getting no signal.

Its hard to see the wires on the Psu because they are sleeved but there's no weird smells(burning etc)

The video card fan spinning at 100% is ALWAYS a bad video card.
ATI cards do this whenever the VPU recover crashes and can't recover the card successfully (usually happens via the driver itself after about 4 crashes or so).
The fact that your card went into full speed DURING a game, and then before POST, is proof that the video card itself died.

If the motherboard or RAM or CPU were at fault, the card would be stuck at idle...the video card BIOS wouldn't even get invoked....

Dead RAM can also stop a computer from posting, but the video card fan wouldn't ever speed up....

The video card didn't start spinning at 100% until after I tried to reboot. The reason I restarted was because my monitor went black and then said no signal. The video hadn't gone crazy at that point.

I tried to get it to post with the onboard video on the mobo I purchased yesterday and still didn't get signal.

So do you think that leads to the ram?

Unplug your monitor from the mains for a fe secs and plug it back in. What error code you getting? GPU is 1 long and 3 short beeps.

Do you mean start the computer then unplug it and listen for beeps? I currently don't have a video card plugged in, just on board video.

Well I tried booting it with monitor plugged in then unplugging it as well as unplugging it before booting and got no beeps either way. Not sure if the current board that's in there does beeps? Gigabyte 880gm d2h.

Either way its onboard graphics not the 4890mother with 100%the fan speed. So I don't see why it would be gpu as the problem if neither are solving it.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood you, then.
I thought the video card went at 100% during the black screen when you were playing SC2, since that's a symptom of a failed VPU recover. *IF* that had been the case, then it would be a 99% chance that the video card died, if it was also revving up to full speed (and no POST) when you tried to power on the computer.

Now that I see that the full speed didn't happen until after you tried to restart, then yeah it could be anything that died :( Seems to point to motherboard or RAM.

Hum I guess ill try ram in a little while since I bought a new mobo yesterday and that didnt fix it. But you dont thinks it the Psu? I might just buy both just to save the multiple trip because I'm going to have to return something I don't need in the long run.

I hesitate to ask this, but are you 100% sure your GPU is plugged in? I once had a loose cable slip out while I was gaming and my monitor went blank, fan went up to 100%, and 3 reboots later I figured out that the cord was very slightly loose, and wasn't providing power to the GPU.

He said that he tried using the integrated graphics, and no POST. And you can't "plug" integrated graphics in--it's already soldered to the motherboard.
