I have a FX 5200 currently. Something has caught my attention. I was almost positive that this was and AGP card yet it says PCI bus in the nvidia settings. Is there anyway I can conform which this card is without opening up the case. Even though I'm upgrading soon I would still like to know.

Its an AGP card. Nvidias drivers have PCI bus settings if the card your using is a PCI card, in which case, your's isn't, so don't worry about

Well all you have to do is look as see if its using an AGP port or a PCI port and your question will be answered.

What kind of OEM machine is this that has an A64 in it?

and how do i no that its on agp 8x or whatever its supposed to be on
i read that other post where the guy said his agp kept going to off
where did he see that?
my 3dmark scores r extremely low

o this comp?
this little comp store down the street from me built it for me
and yes i no like everyone else ur guna ask y didnt i build it myself
my answer is: if i has built it myself i wouldnt have saved very much because this place gave me a really good deal

Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> GeForce FX 5200 -> AGP Settings -> 8x

Your 3dmark scores are going to be low because 3dmark is gpu intensive and the FX 5200 is an FX 5200. You can probably squeeze more out of it if you OC it.

Quite frequently small stores do have decent deal. Not including the ease of returning things if you buy parts (and you get something dead)

Chances are its an AGP card. And im not aware of that board coming without an AGP slot, althought someone could correct me if im wrong. But i wouldnt see them ordering a PCI card for a motherboard that has an AGP slot.

yeah thats where i thought to look
but there is no agp thing there
and i might oc if i knew how
if i knew there would be no risk to other componets of my comp(its very new i dont want anything getting hurt)
and if i knew how to figure out my current gpu temps
i think i might have a gpu fan
its a chaintech FX 5200 and i looked at pics on new egg and it has a little fan i think

The FX5200 AGP versions are all 8x. The reason you saw "PCI bus" is that AGP is a variant of the PCI bus.

Overclock an FX5200? Why? Still won't run anything...

Dude just open up your case and look your hardware over lol.

There is always the chance you MIGHT damage your video card if you dont do it right and overclock TOO FAR but it wont damage anything else in your system.

And i doubt your going to get any GPU temps because only the more expensive cards have GPU temp probes on them. My 5900XT doesn't even have one.

And i'm almost positive that the Chaintech FX 5200 has an active cooler on it.

Star Wars Knights of the old Republic, if you try to do any one of the following: set gfx detail above "low," turn res up from 800x600, or turn on FSAA or AF.

It will "run" most everything except FarCry, but there are certain levels of poor graphics that are like, "why bother?"

you are running in PCI mode, get the lastest AGP (GART) drivers for your mobo.

funny as hell.

yes it is a crappy card not good for dx9 gaming AA or Aniso or stability. but it works for dx8 and opengl and mspaint. but seriously dude, if you are going to get a x800 PE, you really need to get comfortable opening up your case.

i am comfortable opening my case
im also very lazy during the summer time
naturally all my cords are too short so I have to hook it up when its in the back of the tower desk compartment
its just annoying

I'm thinking if i run my games in black and white
i can get a good boost on frame rates
lol

Actually Im quite proud of what my 60 dollar card gave me this last year that ive had it. I can run anything i put on it. and look at my sig lol, thats not a system to brag about lol but my 5200 runs farcry, UT2k4, Gran Theft Auto Vice City, Dark Age of Camelot granted i have low framerates but hey they run and they are playable.

Yes I think the 5200 is the worst card ever to come out aside from the ati rage fury maxx.(my freind gave me his :D ) But i have to give it props cuz its got me through these games with minimal money requirement... my whole system was 150 bucks.

But I still cant wait for my new system lol its a hell of an upgrade should be here tomarrow.

A64 3200+
MSI K8N Neo PE

With your system that 5200 should run anything. The processor can go a good way to pickup the slack from the video card, although it doesnt completely alleviate it, it should still run anything out.

yeah i suppose im being harsh on my FX5200
it will run anything as long a i keep it at low res and no AA AF
lets all give a moment of silence to our FX5200's that struggled when all odds were against them
and i would definantly recommend all the parts in my system especially the cpu this thing is awsome
and i supose if i wasnt afraid to oc an expensive and new cpu( i got my system 2months ago) i prob could

idle temps 37.5 C
load around 50 C
