GPU client problem

Okay, here's the problem I'm having - I can run the GPU client (currently using 6.12 beta 8, will try beta 11 soon, did the same with beta 6) through 2-3 loops fine, then I get the following message in the log file:

[17:03:32] Folding@home Core Shutdown: UNSTABLE_MACHINE
[17:03:35] CoreStatus = 7A (122)
[17:03:35] Sending work to server

[17:03:35] + Attempting to send results
[17:03:35] + Results successfully sent
[17:03:35] Thank you for your contribution to Folding@Home.
[17:03:39] EUE limit exceeded. Pausing 24 hours.

Folding@Home Client Shutdown.

After searching the web, all I found is a recommendation to just restart the client anytime I get this message. That's fine if I'm around the computer, but today it crashed around 11:00 while I was at work, and I couldn't restart it until I got home 10 hours later - 500-600 points gone... Even worse, I'll be gone all weekend, so I'll be looking at at least 2 days of down time from when it shuts down to when I can restart it. Any ideas as to what's going on? FYI, I have the SMP client running in the background 24/7 just fine, never any problems, and the GPU client is set up just like Xilikon's newest guide says...

Also should add in advance - running WinXP 32 bit with the Win SMP 5.91 beta client, if that helps...

First, remove and reinstall the Cuda video drivers. Second, do as you said and grab the latest client, remove the old one (you may have to reboot or go into safe mode to remove the core) and install the new client.

Now, how hot is your video card getting??? Even a non over clocked card they can get too hot and screw up.

If you are unsure of the temps pop over to EVGA.com and grab a copy of EVGA Precison from their driver list. Yes, you will have to give a user name and password, no biggie.

That little GUI program gives you all sorts of overclocking features plus the ability to set the vid card fan to 100%, where it really needs to be.

Those steps should cure your ills. The usual discloser is in order, YMMV.;)

Luck man;)

Temps while gaming in Oblivion never get over about 80C, but with FAH, 95C-97C. It hits that temp about 5 minutes into folding, and runs fine for 24 hours (8 hours per WU on my crappy 8600gt). That's with the standard case fan on the front sucking in and on the back blowing out config, and without any extra overclocks - in fact, I'm not even sure my card will accept any more overclock, as it's an XFX XXX series overclocked from the factory. I tried using the rivatuner OC/ATItool stress test methods, and even gpuZ reports the overclocks, but they never show up in performance or temps. Of course, there's a different forum for that issue :D.

Unless this G84 core can really do 930 MHZ with stock cooling .

I'll try the reinstall bit tonight and hope for the best while I'm gone - thanks!

Since you have a G84 core, it's possible it's affected by a hardware issue that all G84/G86 cores have. You need to lower the clock speeds and try to keep the temperature while folding under 75C. 95C for a long time can damage it.

Look to increase the fan speed or profile. With the fans on 100% the card should never exceed 80c from my experience. Most of my G92's don't even exceed 70c.
