That does sound about right. Just as a point of reference, I'm using an eVGA 8800GTX that I have OC'd the shaders well past what is in my sig rig. I'm powering via a Q6600 running dual SMPs. I'm getting 5100 PpD out of just the GPU2 client.
Well, I have bad heat management in my semi-crappy case, so OCing doesn't do a whole lot for me because the video card craps out above 95C.
The CPU I can get up over 3.4GHz, but I didn't think that would matter a whole lot for the GPU2 client. If it does I can bump the CPU up and see what happens when I stop by my apartment on Monday.
Well, nobody mentioned if OCing the CPU is worthwhile to speeding up the GPU2 client, so I'll assume the two aren't related. I figured I'd have 20 people in here being eExperts in GPU2 folding, telling me exactly what I should be doing and breaking down PPD numbers like they have the tables sitting in front of them, and a slide rule to make adjustments and re-calculations.
Overclock the shaders. My 8800GTX is getting 5500 PPD and I'm not even pushing it. 1700 Shader clock... I know it is not stable at 1800, but I just settled in at 1700 I might be able to push it more... That is some 1700 PPD your leaving on the table atm. I've got mine at 620 gpu / 1700 shader / 1800 memory
+1 for what Sunin says. Just over clock the shaders. You can do that easily with the evga precision overclocking too. A new version 1.31 just came out http://www.evga.com/articles/405.asp
I took my shaders from stock to 1668 and now get 5300-5400 ppd while also running an SMP on a dual core E6700@3.2 in vista. Overclocking the shaders doesn't bring nearly as much heat as does overclocking the core....and overclocking the core really doesn't do much in terms of increasing you ppd. My core and memory are still running stock and I am getting ~5300+ppd. You can squeeze more out if you need to but just doing the shaders is easy (I promise )
