GPU block mounting question, quick help needed!!!

I am about to mount my MCW-60 on to my eVGA 7800GTX, but the plate that goes on the back has a bump in the middle, and it is bigger than the 4 posts for mounting the block, so when I place it on the back of the card, so if it was sitting perfectly level, none of the 4 mounting holes would be touching the card. Looking at the install instructions, it doesn't mention this, I can't figure out what to do about it.

Please help!!
 
If the corners touched the card, the backing plate wouldn't be doing its job. It's supposed to place all of the force onto the back of the card where the core is.
 
I think I got it :)

I didn't realize the nub thing in the middle was rubber, I thought it was metal like the rest of the plate.

And I'm just assuming it's non conductive :D
 
Okay I got another one... if I insert the screw insulator into the spring, and then screw put the screw through that, through the block, through the card, and then into the plate in the back, the screws are way too long to even think about screwing down. I can make it work by turning the screw insulator upside down, but will that work okay? Seems a bit wierd to me.

Seems it would work best if I could put the screws all the way through the back plate, but that's just me.
 
The screw seems to be tightened all the way down too, if I could put the screws all the way thru the back plate, I wouldn't be having any problems.

That big cylinder goes INSIDE the spring. Then you cannot overtighten the screws.
 
I know, I tried that at first, but the screw would not even go in enough to even make it the slightest bit tight, it would still be able to slide around on the screw, it was bottoming out in the back plate before it would even start to come together properly, that's why I turned it upside down like I mentioned a couple posts above.

Forgive me if I'm sounding a bit testy, been a long day so far.
 
Maybe you have the wrong hardware. As long as you get the springs compressed the same amount all around and you don't think you're putting too much pressure on the core, it really doesn't matter how you arranged the hardware. From what I see in that picture that should work just fine, even if it does look goofy :p
 
I shined a work light on the card and it looks like the block adn the core are touching, my only worry is that they are not touching enough to be safe
 
I have the MCW-60 on my X1800XT, the screws and springs are down enough to provide the needed pressure on the core. You don't want to screw it down too much or else you will crush the core, then bye bye $500 video card. :)

A couple of your springs are almost completely compressed, which is too much if anything, certainly not loose. If your block seems like it is slipping around on the core, that's just because the thermal compound hasn't all squished out. Once it has gone through some heat cycles, it will not slide around so easily anymore.
