GPU and DX10

Okay... I have another question about the GPU client. The machine I have my X1950pro in is running Vista, and I'm starting to think that maybe that is the source of my GPU folding nightmares...... Will the client run with DX10 or do I need to install DX9.0c? Or is that even possible???

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I really want to get this damn card to fold..... really..

Your client is running DX9.0c - Vista has DX9 and DX10 - FAH GPU client is using only DX9.

Have you tried getting the latest DX9c update from microsoft? Worth a shot.

Make sure you are using a F@H approved driver version. I accidently updated to a version that wasn't supported and it started spitting out EUE's one right behind the other.

Yeah, I've got the Cats 7.9, which should be fine, right?

One other thing... my card is the X1950PRO 256m AGP version, which according to the FAQ should work "reasonably well", although it does specify that other variants of the card (GT etc) should have at least 512, which if I'm not mistaken is the max available on the X19XX platform anyhow.... so being that my card is the 256m version, it should still work, correct?

EDIT Re-read the FAQ and it pretty clearly states that the 256m PCIe variant works well... nothing said about the AGP card.... dammit.

Anyone using an AGP board for folding?

Well.. it also indicates that the current client expires Feb 1, so unless you guys think otherwise, I think I'll just wait until the new client is released and give it another shot then....

I don't see why the AGP version wouldnt work the same....it's essentially the same card, and it's not like the F@H client is really suffering for the bandwidth increase that PCI-E offers

Alright, got it installed and running... so I guess we'll see how it goes this time...

Odd thing, it seems to be stuck at "Starting GUI Server".... is that normal?

EDIT.... um, nevermind... it already "Completed 1" which I'm assuming equals a frame.... wow.

The difference in speed of the AGP vs. PCIe is not even worth mentioning. A couple percentage points at most.
