GPU acceleration in Flash 10+

Hello to All,

Apologies if this has been asked, I did try search but found no threads.

I wish to use Adobe Flash Plugin 10+ with web site http://www.abc.net.au/iview unfortunitly I am currently dropping video frames.

My system flat lines at 100% cpu load when I attempt to view the videos and drops video frames.
My system is an:
Athlon XP 3200+
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe nForce 2 ultra
2 GB RAM
250 GB Hard disk
Leadtek Geforce FX 5700
Windows XP SP3

I do appreciate the above is old, however if I install an AGP ATI HD 3650 will I gain any GPU acceleration to assist in viewing the videos as I know flash has a tick box supporting this?
 
After investigating the matter, we found this blog post written on May 16 by Adobe software engineer Tinic Uro. In the post, Uro says web developers actually have to enable GPU acceleration manually in the code. Stranger yet, the new GPU-accelerated modes can supposedly slow down content, because "the software rasterizer in the Flash Player can optimize a lot of cases the GPU cannot optimize." So much for that.

I wouldn't put much faith in a GPU upgrade.

How well do YouTube videos run? HD/HQ ones?

Some flash apps are just really buggy CPU hogs, [H] has had flash advertisements in the past that would lock my PC's to 100% cpu load. Makes using the computer near impossible unless you have a dual core. One core gets locked to 100% the other is still available to perform other tasks.
 
Adobe needs to shit or get off the pot, Flash is a pile of crap now. My now 7 yr old's old Athlon 1200/Geforce FX something system that used to run flash kids sites just fine (PBS Kids and such) now with the new and improved and required flash 10 it barely even runs it at all. Some of the same little flash games from years ago arn't even playable.

Heck Silverlight has great GPU acceleration (now with SL3), our old bedroom Netflix watching P4 2.66/ ATI 9800 Pro system (connected to the TV and sound system) Went from a frame dropping mess with Silverlight 2 after the forced upgrade, to nice and smooth playback with SilverLight 3. It struggles with higher res flash video, I have to drop to 800x600 to keep it tolerable.

I think SL3 needs at least a DX9 GPU to enable acceleration, it works with my wife's GMA 4500M (turd) based laptop just fine.

They need to hire some better programmers or something.
 
i know flash 10 and higher use GPU accel.. ive never seen a flash app ever use 100% cpu on my system before.. id be blaming who ever made the flash app more then adobe its self if thats happening.. that or your not using a cuda/or ATI HD series card..

also in your case sabrewulf.. i believe in flash(eg. right click in the window and bring up the settings tab) you can enable or disable flash using the GPU.. this might be the problem your having.. that its forcefully trying to find a gpu to run the app instead of just defaulting back to the cpu..
 
Cool site, wonder when the USA is gunna see internet TV. I believe Time Warner and Comcast are working together for something similar aren't they?
