i'm building a computer for a friend and had no idea that newer motherboards used 24 pin connectors and old ones use 20 pin connectors. i have an antec true blue power supply with a 20 pin connector, can i get a converter to 24 pin and it will work fine or do i need to find another power supply?

Research, Research, Research...

And yes, I think you can pick up a 20-24pin conv., and I think it will work fine.

Some people have stability issues with the 20-24 pin adapters and as always the adapters add resistance. Mainly on the 3.3v. Ideally you want a native 24pin supply.

would newegg allow me to return and exchange the power supply for something like this?

No need. As far as im aware all the 24pins can take a 20pin and boot and run fine. I believe the top 4 pins will be empty, so just plug it in and turn the PC on. You cant do it wrong. I moved my LGA775 mobo to a pc i gave to my father and kept my PSU that was a 24 pin, i have a pos generic 450watt with a 20pin running it fine. All the Nforce4 work with a 20pin too as far as im know. Just something to do to get it going until you either correct it, or maybe it will work out the way it is. You can boot it on a 20pin though.

You can try. If it isn't open they may....they may also charge you a restocking fee. Best thing to do is call.

i got most of the parts for the pc yesterday, and the processor and hard drive will be here next tuesday. today i stopped at a local PC shop and picked up a 20-24 pin converter so i should be fine when everything else arrives.

get a native 24 pin supply converters can cause instablity problems and can damage your hardware.
