for cooler...
based on the rest of your rig, deffinately water cooling or even phase cooling!
 
im not big on overclocking so air cooling should be fine...

does anyone know if the Zalman CNPS9700 LED cooler is any good?

Ooh, I'd disagree there... Unless they've changed since the 3 I purchased at launch.

They were distinctively louder (not so much noise level, but the tonal quality was much more noticible) than a Tuniq tower with a Yate loon.

It's a damn good HSF though.
 
The 9700 is a very good cooler but the Ultra 120 is better.
 
I was considering getting one but I read the multiplier doesn't go higher than 11. Can you confirm that?

You realize that CPU has a TDP of 130W, right? You aren't going to get far on stock cooling.

Why would you want to go beyond 11x? I seriously doubt you're going to be able to hit 4.4GHz (11x400).

The reviews I've read show stability at 3.8-4.0 on AIR. I'm using water, I'd like to push as much as possible.

That is a killer system, BUT I would not have bought two Ultras right now, in like 3 months the brand new generation 9800GTX will be out in November, which all rumors say one 9800GTX will equal 2-8800GTX's

I agree with you..... that is a killer system, but as far as the video cards go, I say why not. The fact is the rumors about the next gen cards are just that... Rumors nothing more. Plus nVidia still has the performance crown for video cards and it doesn't look like they will lose it anytime soon so they may just milk the 8 series for a whole 6 months more (man a whole year, I don't think I've seen them hold the crown that long before if at all on a single generation of card). So I would do the same if I were him if I wanted the best at this point.

Man I wish I could have that kind of build, too bad I'm so broke I actually have to sell mine :(.
 
Considering you have a quad core don't go zalman or somthing like that get the Thermalright ultra 120 extreme FTW.

even if it were true, is this a retail cpu............ES is more like it to me. Its just the track record of the source isnt very credible in the least. I'd believe a more trusted source like [H] for firsthand reports.


Anyways, very nice build sheet OP, should be a heck of a rig.

No proof it was the QX6850 producing those "results". Sorry. You should know better than to quote the inq in here, even for rave intel reviews. No temps posted, either. No voltage specs.. It's crap. At load, that chip is putting out probably close to 250 watts at that speed.


When I see someone else with that setup getting 3.8 on a ZNPS9700Cu with load temps below 90C, I'll believe it. Until then, it's pure bulllllllcrap.
 
got it from jpn yesterday as it was july 22nd then....

so the thermalright ultra seems the best choice...

is it worth the price? do you have to get a fan with it or sumthin? if yes, which one should i get?

how about the tuniq tower 120?
