and now I get to spend 1/4 of the price of the ram shipping it back to get a replacement plus the downtime.

Brand new out of the package Ripjaws DDR3-1600...

sry...had to vent.

Why not use first-class mail? It should be like only 2 dollars to ship that ram.

you either got a really good deal on the ram or you spent too much on shipping. i'm betting on the latter. a simple bubble mailer would've worked in first class mail.

As others said, too much in shipping. Even if you went with a 2-day flat rate box (assuming you're in the USA) it only would have been ~$5.

If it's going back to the retailer, talk to em and see if they'll reimburse your shipping costs. I know a lot of people have done that with many online stores.

Going with the bubble mailer.
Newegg tried to talk me into using their automated return service which wanted $10 bucks to send pack a pack of ram.

sheesh...

Newegg doesn't free replace free ship bad ram modules? try the manu

you call them up and request a pre-paid shipping label to return the defective items.
I do that when I get bad parts, and recently did it a couple of months ago with 4GB DDR3 kit.

And the only drawback to using regular mail is that it isn't easliy trackable so if it gets lost in the mail you are sol.
Small Flat rate box with insurance and Delivery confirmation is around $6.50 from East to West Coast. UPS is $9.50.

i had the same thing happen to me. i just emailed g.skill and filled out the rma forum emailed it to them. sent it in a usps $5 box with my ram and rma forum. got my ram back in less then 8 days. was very painless.

yeah, I've done RMA with G.Skill as well and paid like 2.38 in shipping. Not bad considering.

On a sorta related note I still buy G.Skill and love it.

I'm calling 911 right now. Nobody ever gets faulty products from manufacturers. Thank goodness we have had the American auto industry giving us flawless products for the past 30 years. If only they can give us the sweet sweet ram we so desire.

that shit, although unnecessary, was fucking hilarious...

Bubble mailers can get bent during the postal handling process snapping the dimm in the process. I'm blanking on the name, but know there's at least one ram company that explicitly return to sender's any RMAs not in a rigid package because of this.

I used a piece of cardboard folded over to surround the hard shell plastic retail packaging and a cushion mailer. It was very substantial and when you use that type of mailer you can use Delivery Confirmation without having to go priority.

Still did cost about 5 bucks but I guess that aint nothing nowadays...

Was just mad at having to wait another 10 days or so on a system that seems cursed from the start. Was the end of a long night trying to figure out what in the f*#% was wrong this time and needed to vent. Couldn't believe that on top of my sorrow, Newegg would try to poke my eyes out on the return. Even if it was UPS, they were promoting that shit and calling it a discount.

I'll still buy GSkill as well. Just really really frustrated that night...

dont feel bad. i know your feeling and pain,my pain went on for week i was thinking it was,the motherboard did memtest, prime and i got other motherboard spend $140, and come to find out it was a bad stick just 1 bad stick!

I have so g.skill ram from over 5 years ago thats still flawless. I went with Kingston with my last build purely due to price. I hope I don't end up regretting that :p

What was wrong with it exactly. I just got 2x2GB 6-8-6 DDR3-1600 ripjaws and it won't run any faster than CL8, as far as I can tell. Running at 1500 because it doesn't like to POST at 1600 everytime.

The 24GB of g.skill in my other machine is doing fine though.

I've experienced a high number of DOA G.skill dimms from newegg.

On a recent build, I purchased a 2x4GB kit and only 4GB was detected. I requested the RMA, but instead of waiting, I went ahead and purchased another kit.

Same thing happened, on 4GB detected.

I took the working 4GB from the first pair, and paired it with the working 4GB from the second pair to get 8GB working and sent back two defective dimms.

Maybe it is bad luck, but a 50% failure rate is pretty bad....

Building a new machine right now with a new set of 2x2gb G Skill sticks. Here's hoping they work.

wow I just received my G.Skill Ripjaws X that was specifically made for p67 boards & doesnt list compatibility with anything else & dropped it into my 890gxm & overclocked away..

I bet you are overclocking your ram controller. Remember that the maximum supported ram frequency on AMD (AM3) and Intel (LGA 1155/1156) is 1333 MHz and on Intel LGA1366 the maximum ram frequency is 1066 MHz. Using higher speed ram than the CPUs were designed to handle sometimes requires increasing the voltage of the IMC or sometimes relaxing the settings from what the ram can do.

Ouch that sucks man. I had a friend who had to RMA he set of 3x2GB Gskill set and newegg took care of him. I was impressed with their service.

Yeah, my RipX's are running great at advertised clock, and with relatively low voltage/heat. Once I've got the airflow in my new case worked out I'm gonna see if these can't OC to tighten the timings even more.

Yeah, it sucks, but it happens. In my case I had to RMA twice before I got a set without problems.

Luckily my RipX have worked flawlessly out of the box at rated timings and voltage using XMP profile (DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5V).

I have to say that between myself and a circle of savvy friends this is the first build in a while that has NOT had some kind of stupid RAM problems - defective, faulty, intermittent, chipset incompatibilities, problems posting, not reaching rated timings etc...

*touch wood*

Now I just hope that the Ripjaws X heat spreaders don't interfere with an aftermarket CPU cooler.

I got 2x2GB RipX DDR3-1600 kit today, pop in works fine no problem.

Thanks god no rma for me at this moment.
