Hi, I am looking to buy the new MBP and I see it comes with 2 gb's of ram. is that 1 stick of 2gb ram or 2 1gb sticks? and what ram do you suggest I buy to add MORE ram!!! I will be using the laptop for school research but also a lot of photo editing from RAW files form my DSLR using CS3
 
I believe the MBP comes with 2x1gb sticks.

I've read that some people were able to convince the people at the Apple stores to swap the 2x1gb sticks for a 1x2gb one. Don't count on it though.
 
Buy a 4GB (2xGB) kit from NewEgg. You should be able to get a Kingston, Corsair, PNY, etc. for less than $100. I got a Kingston kit and it works great in my MBP.

MacBook Pros use PC2 5300 memory. Anything faster will just cycle down to that speed.
 
I see you have 4 gb of ram in your mbp felix. What brand did you get? Any suggestions on which on to get?
 
Grab some A-Data @ Newegg.

$20 Per G/B for 4GB, sell the 2GB it came with for $30 to $40 and it's a very worthwhile upgrade.

Don't fall for that "Apple needs unique 'Apple-designed' RAM" crap. RAM is RAM is RAM...

Here's what I bought: Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory

It's still listed at $85 + $5.58 3-day shipping. NewEgg had a free shipping promo when I bought it. Keep your original RAM, though. If your MBP ever needs service, re-install the original RAM before sending it to Apple.

I was wondering what your thoughts were on upgrading the hard drive from a 200gb 5400rpm to 7200rpm. Is it worth a extra 90 dollars?

I will be using the laptop for research and school stuff but also I would like to use it to play games using bootcamp and there will be a lot of photo editing using photoshop CS3 and converting and editing RAW files.

That stuff you listed would make it worth the upgrade to the 7200RPM drive IMO.

I guess I'm a little late, but I bought the RAM I have through the place I work. I think it was $37.50 per stick, we got a special price. It's just Samsung chips on Samsung PCB with a lifetime warranty. It seems to work well.
 
I was looking at NCIX website but it seems like they don't carry a large selection of laptop ram

Check their weekly sales. They often sell single 2gb sticks for around 35-40$. It's a banner on their front page.
