Which is better, high amp on single 12v rail or mutli 12v rails for quad SLI or even crossfire. Done alot of research but still not sure. The 2 power supplies i have in question are: silverstone 750w zeus and zippy 700w.
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=160&products_id=4447 which i current own and this

http://www.zippy.com.tw/P_product_d...S2/PS2++single&pcpw_rfnbr=5&pp_code=PSL-6701P

Just wondering which is better stablility wise if i plan to OC. Thanks for the help guys.

If you already have the silverstone, then why are you thinking about buying a new unit? Many would kill to have that, yet your reconsidering?

If it runs stable, then dont worry about it. That unit is PLENTY for your rig..

Multi 12's are good in a quad rail config because then each GPU gets it's own rail.

But on that quad 12V rail PSU, do make sure you're looking at the combined total wattage for the 12's to determine the total 12V capability and not just add the rails up.

There's no specs for that Zippy on that site and I'm too lazy to look for myself. ;)

Good point.

OP: Are you on crack?!!?!?

The Zippy only has 45A on the 12V rail. The Silverstone has 60A.

Hello? ;)

get the 850w zippy. 60a on single 12v rail. :D

Any of the 3 supplies discussed in this thread are more than enough for any rig out there.

No offense guys but ive heard that a large single 12v >quad 12v rails when it comes to crossfire or SLI cards. Thanks for the clarification, just that i have a chance to trade my silverstone for the zippy from a friend.

Actually, one large 12V rail is better than dual 12V rails.

But when you have four or five of them, there's enough power to go around.

For example: A Seasonic S12-600 (dual 12's) isn't good for a pair of X1900's, but an FSP FX600 (quad 12's) is.

Do more research. ;)

I wouldn't sell the or ditch the SIlverstone to get the Zippy if I already had the Silverstone...however personal preference on my part would be for the Zippy 850 if I was buying the first time.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to upgrade to the 850 from the 700....I don't need to right now, but I'm wondering about my future Conroe/quad SLI build that I've already started buying parts for...

I think the 700 should handle it fine, but I kind of just want the 850 so I can say I have 60 amps on 1 line :p

Or you could buy it for a weapon. Slartibartfast just bought it and apparently it's shipped weigth was over 12lbs...with just the PSU and packaging :D

I suppose I could use it to bludgeon the owner of this computer I'm working on who managed to somehow acquire 173 viruses thanks to using norton subscriptions that are 3 yeasrs old....and won't let me reformat or uninstall norton for nod32!

Running my rig right now. It's a beautiful thing (once I scrubbed the bloodstains off, I mean) :D
