I have a AMD 1800+ and my motherboard is an Epox 8K3A+. Before today, I had 256mb PC2100 which wouldn't overclock any more than 2 or 3mhz over stock speeds. So today I bought a stick of 512MB PC3200, and got the FSB up to 155mhz from 133. I can't go any higher or the computer will refuse to post. I haven't played with it TOO much today, but I have tried raising the voltage on the CPU and that still didn't work. I don't know why it won't work with the new faster memory  I know it's not cooling, because my computer is watercooled and the CPU sits at 35 idle at 1.79ghz (stock being 1.53). Have I hit a wall with the CPU?

It's not a huge deal, but I am just trying to drain the last bit of speed from my system in preparation for HL2 without buying a new CPU. I bought this RAM because I will use it in my next system (will buy another identical stick for 1gb total) but I don't want to put more money into anything else in this computer that will be ditched with the next upgrade.

Nobody can help?

I guess I will just play with the voltages and timings and see if I can get any more out of it :(

Well, the problem you are running into is probably due to the fact that you are stressing your PCI/AGP clock too much.

If you try booting your computer at 166mhz FSB you hit a divider that puts that PCI/AGP busses back to their stock level. You will need to be able to lower the multiplier on your CPU though.

I have the same CPU and I am running at 12x166, solid (I think this is actually a pretty good OC). It really helps if you have a non-locked multiplier, so see if you do.

hope this helps

^^^^ What he said is right :p I had that Epox 8K3A+, great motherboard, and overclocked my 2500+ to 3000+ speeds with it. Yeah, unlock the multipliers of your processor and then switch to 166MHz FSB since that Epox has the 1/5 divider for AGP/PCI lock. You will get best performance with higher FSB.
