Is this the new HSM Macro or the old Macro? And why did you choose this lens over the 18-55 IS?
 
no HSM for canon mounts yet. I got this over the 15-85IS because of the constant aperture of 2.8 vs 3.5-5.6 of the canon. Also I like the macro ability of the sigma. I loose IS but low light performance is solid wide open.
 
So this is a constant f/2.8? I have been looking at the Tamron 17-50mm XR Di II LD f/2.8 for about $420. Does anyone know if there is a huge difference between the two?

Post some pics with it as I am interested to see how they come out.
