I asked for a chargeback through my credit card on the VP912b I bought from Monitors Direct. I am not happy with the monitor and wanted my money back but Monitors Direct went out of business two weeks after I got the monito.

The credit card company issued me a refund in full today!

I still have the monitor and I asked the bank what to do with it. They said to keep it and to send it back if the merchant asks for it back. Considering that all of Monitor Direct's phone numbers are disconnected, I wonder if anyone is around to ask for it back? I guess I'll keep it until I hear something.

keep it...and think of it as a gift for the hassle you had to go through.

the fact that they left you in the ditch when you needed them...
there's absolutely no reason to return it...i would give them a hard time out of spite...

just consider yourself lucky, very lucky...congrats!

what credit card btw? i need to get one...lol

I don't have any address for Monitors Direct or I would send it back. The address on the shipping label might just be a drop shipper like Tech data or Ingram Micro. No packing list with the shipment. The two emails I got from Monitors Direct have no address. I can't find the printout of my order, but I doubt it listed an address. The website has been down for a month now, so I can't look up the address that way.

I'm not trying to rip off Monitors Direct here.

If they contact me with an address to ship to, I will send the monitor back. The bank didn't get any response from Monitors Direct, so they issued the charge back. Monitors Direct still has one last opportunity to challenge the charge back. If Monitors Direct contacts the bank, I'll tell the bank I will return the monitor as long as I keep the credit to my account.

For the person who asked, my credit card is through Bank One.

I wonder why they went out of business....they had a good reputation for selling monitors, especially around these parts.

Update:

I found an address for Monitors Direct on cnet.com. The address is different from the one on the shipping label. The phone number on the shipping label is disconnected and so are the numbers listed at Cnet.

I'm loath to just send the monitor back to a random address without some contact with someone first. If I send it back and it vanishes into thin air they might still ask for it back later and I'm screwed. A tracking number won't necessarily help as I could have shipped back a brick.

They were part of Cornerstone Technology and I think Cornerstone also made the Planar line of monitors.

A different part of the business may have caused the parent company to go under. I've searched a bit and haven't found any bankruptcy filings or anything like that.

Just keep it for now, use it as a second monitor or somthing. if they never ask for it back then, lets say ya got lucky. you can sell it or just keep it.

if MD went backrup==bankone is not getting its money so just keep it

I'm currently waiting to hear from Amex about the Sony 234 (it arrived with 5 dead pixels and uneven backlighting) I got from MonitorsDirect. When I talked to Amex about this they said that they have to give the merchant 4 weeks by law to respond to the dispute. If there is no response they will not pay the merchant and I will not be charged for the item. The great thing about Amex is as soon as you open a dispute they remove the charge from your account. I have disputed a few things over the years and Amex has never failed to come through for me. As for sending the monitor back, I will be happy to if I am asked. I will not even consider sending the monitor back if I am not requested to do so. Who knows where it might end up? I'm not going to pay the shipping cost to send it back to a company that may never even receive it.

Exactly my thoughts on returning my monitor. I'm not going to do it until someone contacts me. Mine is not defective. I just don't like it and wanted to return it under the 30 days guarantee. If mine was defective, I would send it back after getting my money back.

I don't think Visa/Mastercard give the merchants much time at all in a dispute. I used to have a business and we got like 5 business days to respond to a dispute. I usually just issued a credit so we wouldn't get a chargeback. The amounts were small (Usually under $20) and chargebacks can affect the cost of accepting Visa/Mastercard.

Don't bother sending it back unless they contact YOU. I'd only bitch at someone keeping a monitor if there was no good reason to send it back. The company doesn't exist anymore!

why did you want to send back the monitor?

apparently is a very good one and I am thinking in buying it.

The VP912b is extremely reflective. Like a mirror in some cases.

At night with incandescent lighting, it isn't too bad unless the background is black. During the day, even with the shades closed, the reflections are so bad it is almost unusable due to reflections.

Also some backlighting issues, but those could maybe be solved by adjusting the backlighting. I just haven't bothered with the reflections issue.
