Well, I had it in the bag, I was gonna be up above 1k points in just a few hours when my brother stepped in. I had his computer (P3 500MHz) running F@H for about 4 days folding a 500000 step fold worth about 200 points. I also had my mom's P4 folding a 400 frame fold. The P3 was at 97 percent and the P4 was at 391 frames.

Earlier in the week I told him to let the program run and not to touch it or move anything. Well, he decided that 4 days was as long as he was going to obey. He moved all the files around deleting all the work files, the config file and everything.

So I try to fix it, put everything back, but its all gone, all 97 percent of it. 200 points gone.

In the meantime, he goes upstairs to use my mom's while I'm fixing his. He decides that the desktop is too messy and he is going to get rid of half of the stuff on it and put the rest in a bunch of folders. Again, he deletes the work files and all 391 frames. 241 points, gone.

So basically he screwed me out of almost 500 points that would have put me above 1k. My goal for this week.

So, anyone else experience stuff like this? Post away, I would like to know that I'm not the only unlucky bastard out there.

Holy crap! Your brother didn't "obey" your commands about what to do with his own computer?

Bastard.

This is why you put all that stuff in a directory that is unobtrusive...put it out of the way and let it do its work. Live and learn I suppose.

wow that does suck. Next time, put it in a folder that he isn't gonna mess with, or find. My dad said I can put it on his computer, but he doesn't wanna have to mess with it, so I put it in his I386 folder in the C drive, works fine, he never messes with that folder anyways.

:D Still, it pisses me off. You would be pissed if it hapened to you. :p

Plus, he is 12 and thinks that he is a computer guru when actually he doesn't know shit. Its comical to hear him talk about computers thinking that he knows all. :D

man that SUCKS....i tell you what though...i would be in jail if i were your cuz i would have killed him :)

May I suggest a little...*ahem*...retribution?

:p I thought about that already, with his beloved GBA SP. He goes nowhere without it. It would be great. I need a gameboy shell or busted gameboy.

Id soak his hand in lukewarm water to show him how pissed I was. :D
I feel your pain.

I create a c:\program files\common files\dcdir directory and hide everything in there. Hasn't been found or deleted yet. ;)

If I were running programs on someone else's computer that I wanted to make sure ran without interruption, I would make it impossible for him to mess with it, period ;)

Hide the folder, then run it as a service that way they won't even know its running.

Then when he's sleeping.........piss on his head!! :D

Now that's what I call the Direct Approach ;)

For a simple service install, try the setup-fold program. It automatically grabs the latest version of FAH, and installs it as a service.

Don't leave FAH on the desktop. If you do, you're asking for trouble, especially on shared machines used by 12 year olds. Put it in Program Files, and it'll probably never get bothered. C:\Program Files\FAH is where I toss all of mine in Windows/borgs. ;)

Full Folding Ahead!

use U_M program it works very well i use it most of the time now because it does a good job and i can just put it on a thumb drive and i then run it and let it go. completely unknown
you don't even have to restart your computer if you go into the admin section and services and start it.

and ya piss on your bros head:D

When you run it as a service, it does the same thing just not viewed in console correct?

And lukewarm water is sounding pretty good. :D

Yeah, the service just runs in the background, the only overt evidence that its running is in Task Manager. Otherwise no one would ever be the wiser.

Especially since the average computer user has no idea what most of the processes in the task manager mean, and they don't even know which ones are the standard with windows, etc, haha so indeed, no one will be the wiser :D
