Well, I am at a crossroads. I have been ocing with my P4P800 deluxe for about a year now. It is a good board, but I have been trying to hit 4.0ghz with my 3.2c I can boot and run at 3.8ish, but after a little while the system will hang or restart. I have been trying to narrow the cause down, and discoverd that when running Cpu-z I notice a drop from 1.62 down to 1.55 vcore. The system actually restarted once right as the droop happened.

Now, I am about to end anymore upgrading of the system. I will begin a new build sometime next year once the newer technology is out. I dont know if I should get a new MB, or try to mod this one. I could do the droop mod as well as the others. My cooling and all other hardware is more than suffecient for now.
Here are my system specs:
520W Antec psu
Asus p4p800 dlx
3.2C, 2X80gb Sata in Raid0, X800XT
I have a custom watercooling setup with D-Tek blocks, Via Aqua pump, res, Black ice pro II, and a swiftech NB heatsink and fan.
So, make me some suggestions. Is it worth to change the MB or should I just mod. If I screw up the mods then what MB to replace it. P4C800 dlx? Something different?
 
Try the mod, it fixed my overclocks so now i get way less droop but make sure you know someone good at soldering (maybe yourself?) cause the points are tiny but the mod itself is extremely simple (only 2 wires) and a 50/100k variable resistor which you wind to increase voltage (borrowed voltage from the memory). That said, i'd still rather a brand spankin new Abit board, cause im never buying Asus again purely cause of their voltage(kinda petty huh? hahaha).

If you cant be bothered and want a new mb or the old one dies then stay away from Asus like the plague cause they cant make a mobo with stable voltage to save themselves. My advice would be go for an Abit IC7-G cause they actually care about their voltage and use Jap Caps instead of Taiwanese crap. The voltage stability of the two boards is like night and day or crap and cream, Asus being the smelly dark pile of crap.

Thanks for the info. I was actuallay looking at that board along with the Asus. I might just get a new board. Even though I am am pretty good with electrical stuff and could solder it up, I would rather give the Asus board to a friend and see it used versus destroying it by accident. I will look around at the Abit boards first. Thanks again
 
not the ic7-g, the winbond monitor lies, if you scrape off some of the insulation to the choke and measure yourself you will see what i mean, i have it set at 1.70v and its feeding it 1.71 and varys by +-0.001v and it doesnt change load to idle...
maybe the is7 doesnt have the stable voltage the ic7 does? if its unstable i blame the psu more then the mobo
 
Maybe so. It does use the same rubycon caps as the ic7. Many people have had that problem and it seems to not be psu related. Maybe the IC7 is better, but some people have reported problems on that too.
