I have a 360 and a PS3 & im wondering this. Im saving to buy a nice Monitor. im almost good for a pretty nice IPS Panel. Im wondering this tho.

How much of a difference is there between 1600x900 & 1920x1080. is it Noticable?

Im wondering also. Do you think a HP W2408H is worth 150 bucks?

Noticeable while gaming? No unless you're under 3 feet away.

The HP W2408H is a TN panel, not IPS. But, it's a great TN monitor for a great price.

Although, if you're only going to be using it for console gaming, and not a computer, you should be looking at a 32" HDTV.

Yes that is why I only game on PC Monitors. I like screen sizes from 22 to 24 inches. I find them perfect in my opinion

It will only look worse if you're really close to the screen.

This way instead of being glued to the screen, you can sit a comfortable 3 feet apart.

1600x900 is pretty low resolution in my opinion. What the hell size is that anyway? All the 20" and 22" monitors I've seen that were worth a damn were 1600x1200 (4:3) or 1680x1050 (16:9) native. 1920x1080/1920x1200 are a big improvement as far as I am concerned.

Except he says it will be hooked up to a 360 and PS3, which render at 720p or lower anyway, so there won't be any difference between 1600x900 and 1920x1080 for console gaming. As long as both can take 1280x720 input, anyway, as the PS3 doesn't always scale (or should I say rarely scales? Almost none of the games I have scale anyway)

It depends on how far back you're sitting from your screen, but since you'll be console gaming the 1600x900 should be fine.

That's true, I wasn't considering the resolution of the consoles themselves.

Never heard of 1600x900, I have seen 1440x900 however. Just get a 1080p screen, there getting really cheap, no reason to get anything any smaller.

Money stinks right now. im stuck right now @ 175.00. The guy who had the HP I asked about sold it today so I lost out on that. is there anything that is worth it at 175?

It will just mainly add 2" extra size increase to it. But, for $19 more than the VH226H, I probably would get it myself.

Plus, didn't you have the Acer 23" display? I don't think I want to settle for another monitor that will be smaller than your previous Acer 23" display.

i had 2 acer Models that awere complete friggen garbage. both died Multiple times in 18 months. each monitor went back to Acer 4 or 5 times and took 1 month each time to get back. I am fine with smaller then 23 inches if its a good monitor

ASUS VH242H: 5ms - 179.99
ASUS VH236H: 2ms - 188.99

from what ive read is you cannot tell the difference between 5ms and 2ms. am i correct. I did end up ordering the VH242H it was 189.99 with 10% off & free shipping. came to be 179.99

Good move 4LC4PON3. I probably would go with the 23.6" with 5ms vs the 23" with 2ms. The 5ms should be low enough already that you pretty much shouldn't see any ghosting. Hehe, you upgraded to bigger display by .6 inches.

from what ive read is that you cant visually see a difference between 2ms and 5ms so I went based on that.

on the acer h233h that I had it was 5ms and I never saw any ghosting ever so im going to assume I wont on this Panel.

Im also hoping that the New Panel the ASUS VH242H is a Way better Monitor then the Acer H233H that I had. Acer put a bad taste in my mouth with the last 2 monitors wich inturn made me Not want to buy another Acer Product.

also Thanks for the Help guys. It was much appreciated. im Def going IPS at tax time so you know I will be back for advice

I have the HP 2408H and I absolutely love it. Though I'm currently using it as bedroom TV but when it was hooked up to my hackintosh is was really good.. almost like the screen in an iMac. The only thing bad about it is the viewing angle but just don't use it as a portrait mode I think the monitor is with that price is a really nice deal.

Not true (for the PS3 at least), most of the big name titles are 720p, but there are some that are 1080 and most of the arcady games are in 1080p as well.

Well, yeah, the 360 can render arcade games at 1080p as well :p And the big name titles that can output 1080p still aren't *rendering* at 1080p, they just support upscaling (still strikes me as weird that the PS3 doesn't automatically do that like the 360), with a few very rare exceptions that actually do render at 1080p.

360 can also output to all sorts of resolutions, including 16:10 ones ;)

Ahh, I see what you mean, I still think some intermediary resolution where there's extra scaling wouldn't be a great idea though.

Well, unless he gets a 1280x720 monitor he is going to get the monitor doing scaling most of the time from the PS3. The 360 will happily scale to any resolution you want.

I got a Panel already Ordered a ASUS VH242H 1920x1080 from newegg. was 179.99 thats with a 10% off Code and Free Ship

Hi 4LC4PON3, how is the monitor for you? I'm looking at some of the same monitors and Asus seems like an ok brand. Any ghosting? Response time didn't make a difference did it? How about reading text, that is one thing I'm concerned about.

For those who were asking what 1600x900 was, it's the new resolution used by 19-20" LCDs that are 16:9 resolution.

1680x1050 was only for 16:10 aspect ratio monitors and hardly if any new models are being made at 16:10.

See here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ption=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=

20" is just too small for 1920x1280 for some reason and it seems you need at least 21.5" to hit 1080p.

It's all a shame IMO but what can ya do. I still seek out the 1680x1050s and 1920x1200s 16:10 monitors but it's becoming harder and harder to find them.
