ok, bit the bullet. Now we all k now that the prices WILL drop 22 April. Fry's here in my area had a very limited supply of Quad cores and only one kind in stock. The idea is common amongst many [H] members---buy now, get refund of difference later.

So....that's what I did. They have no problems with this and heck, some of them know of the upcoming price drop because they want the e6600 lol. Anyway, I can't OC like my other 6600 but that was no suprise. I have all sorts of cooling here and though I can get 3.6 like my duo, I didn't pass stress test..(and I studied damn it!) and I don't feel like playing with it to get there stable. 3.4 on less v's is nice with this chip...:)

As for crazy performance increase....:eek: Not much. But I do play SUPCOM and I am looking forward to Valves ep2 that will use the 4 cores. Aside from that, I could be very happy with my duo but I'm content with my quad--piece of mind means alot to me. Plus I get to score 5.9 on the penis scale :)

Maybe I should fold..hmmmm :)
 
That's a good way to do it as long as Fry's drops their price. A lot of upfront cost but you'll be able to bring that down a few hundred dollars.

I am going to go for a q6600 after the price drop. After re-encoding all 500+ of my retail DVD's using nero recode, then getting a bigger TV and seeing I did them at to low of quality, I need to pretty much start over. If I see a 25-30% increase in encoding speeds vs my e6400@3ghz I will be happy. I was doing a movie in under 3hrs, new settings = 5+ hours.

Hopefully retail will be less than $550 and hopefully I can get $140-150 out of my e6400.
 
I do think that some games, BF2 for example runs better though Im pretty sure its not optimized for more than one core or two at the most. Some games seem more fluid. It's nice.

The price will be so sweet on the 22.
