Got a Qpack - happy, but temp sensor issues?

Hey guys, I just got a Qpack for a small secondary machine at my desk (Linux machine next to my main Windows gaming machine), and have a question or two. I'll give you my thoughts/mods first:

First off, I'm pretty impressed with the case, and how quiet the PSU is. However, I wasn't impressed with the 120mm fan. After hearing how loud it was, the very first thing I did was tear the old connector off and convert it to a 3 pin so I could manage the speed via a fan controller. It still moves a ton of air, but is now silent.

I used electrical tape to put the HD sensor right on the top middle of my Maxtor. I know the temps won't be perfect, but it does give a ballpark idea. It's reading about 30c for the HD. I am using an older Intel board (2 gig proc), and decided to replace the noisy crappy stock fan with a Zalman. While I was at it, I slipped the CPU sensor between the proc and heat sink. This however isn't working. The Intel utilities read about 50-55c, however the case display registers a constant 25c.

This was just as I was rolling to bed last night, so I haven't torn it apart yet. I'm sure the sensor is secured well between the chip and heat sink, so I'm not sure where the 25c is coming from. Without powering the system down, I was attempting to look at where the sensor connects, but it appears to be inside the front of the case (does it require removing internal components and unscrewing, or does the front just pop off?).

Any thoughts? Any idea why those temps would be off or non-existent?

I'm pretty happy with the case, especially for the price. I think I'll add a small fan of sorts to blow air across the hard drive next.
 
those temp probs are never really that great anyway. I am not sure what you can do other than deal with it :-/. I am planning on adding a 92mm fan to the side (away from HDs) so it will have kind of a circular motion which should cool the stuff nicely.
 
You should be able to use Everest to read the hard drive's internal temp sensor, which should be much more accurate.
 
You know you can get internal HDD temperatures through speed fan. All HDDs with SMART capability (which is just about every drive made in the last 3+ years) have an internal temp sensor, its just most BIOS\temp programs don't offer a way to read the temps. Speedfan does though :).
 
Thanks for all the Windows advice heh, but I'll be running Linux on this box. My issue isn't with the HD temp (I just wanted to see how well that worked), but why the CPU temp is registering 25c all the time.

Barely yes, but it's running very well. 10c lower than the Intel stock at low fan speed at full load.

your temps would be even lower it it isn't breaking contact..... for a hs to perform optiammly it is best to have flat to flat contact
 
LOL, all kinds of "solutions and fixes" none involving the problem ;) Anyone have an answer to my original question of why front panel isn't working properly?
