Okay, my BENQ DVD Writer seems to be having a problem. It reads as a DVD RW Drive in My Computer until you put a blank DVD in to go and burn it - then it reads it as a CD Drive... What is wrong? Any idea? Please help!
 
Maybe your blank DVD is actually a blank CD. Maybe that's why you got such a good deal on them.
 
No no, im not that stupid. I did burn a cd on my dvd burner about a week ago since my cd burner was acting up, and thats about the last time I used it and now this all of a sudden.. what would cause it?
 
ASPI drivers installed correctly. Unistall the drive and reinstall the newest drivers. other than that im stumped
 
is it a new drive, becuase if it is new, then i would say its probably fualty and i'd just return it, faulty drives ussually do that kind of stuff. What operating system do you use, and does it play dvd video alright?
 
Make sure the software you are using, sees the drive as a DVD-ROM and sees dvd blanks. I had a similar problem like this, although I do not totally remember, but in the end it led to the software giving me the problem. Good Luck.
 
I had the same thing happen, but it turned out it was software settings in Nero.
What software are you using?
 
Im using Nero 6 Suite and CloneDVD to burn my DVD's. Where are the settings located in Nero. And yes, I checked. When I put a blank CD in the DVD_RW Drive it reads it as a CD_R and when I put a blank dvd it reads it as a DVD_R, but for both it still changes and reads it as a CD DRIVE.
 
Are you trying to burn a bunch of Data onto the DVD or make a Back Up of a movie?
If you a trying to burn data onto the disc, open nero Start Smart and make sure you choose DVD at the top right. Close Start smart ant try it again.
If you are having issues backing up a movie, I'm not sure waht the problem could be off the top of my head.
