Well I decided to try out Amd so I ordered a HIS Iceq X2 7970. Some on AnandTech are saying I made a bad decision going with Amd over Nvidia due to driver issues, and it being a bad brand.

Starting to think that I kinda made a rough choice. But I liked the price I got it for and for me it will perform exactly how I want it. I last had a 560ti so I should see improvement.

What is the big deal?
 
LOL i read that thread and i say don't worry about it as that someone is a nobody.
 
the driver issues are only really relevant when running xfire configs. with a single 7970 card, drivers aren't really a problem. the performance say between the 7970 & 680 is negligible a best, unless you're comparing a stock clocked 7970.

the only thing you may miss out on going with the 7970 is games with 'PhysX'.

Yeh I figured that much haha. I never even bothered or really noticed Physix that much. Besides out of all the games out there, only maybe 20 or so had Physix, and even less were extremely popular.

I'm looking forward to Hitman Absolution, Sleeping dogs. I wonder, because I saw on HIS website that they still have the promotion for 3 games with a 7970. I will contact them, I wonder if the coupon card will be in the box with the card.

Not that I am a particular fan of any of those games, Dirt seems interesting, I don't know a lot about Dues Ex, and Nexius(that looked weird).

Deus Ex is a fantastic role playing FPS and is one of my favorite games. I also loved the early Hitman games as a point of reference.:D
 
I already had a 6950 HIS with sharders unlocked... never gave me a problem, now it is with my friend working without any issues.

Now I have 2 hd 7950 HIS reference overclocked to 1000@1400... no problems at all...

maybe that guy is just a NVIDIA fanboy... in my opnion AMD/ATI hardware is better, but yes Nvidia drivers are better... I would always go for the best hardware, because it's easier to change your driver than your hardware :p
 
The card came today and it is Huge! Looks really nice actually. Glad I got one before the price went back up. Too bad my new case is still 4 hours away and UPS does not deliver on Saturdays. I'm not even sure if they still transit on weekends or not.

Don't worry about it. There is nothing wrong with trying another brand. If you don't like it, you can always return it
 
I didn't have any issues with drivers using a 7950, but on the 7870/50 they were just crap; that and the black screen crash is beyond annoying.

I wouldn't regret buying a 7970, but I personally have no need for more than a 660Ti lol.
 
Yeh well see how it goes. I received the card, its beautiful..but its longer than a footlong at Subway. Too bad UPS doesn't deliver Saturdays I should have had my case already.
 
With a single powerful card, it's hard not to go with an AMD. It's when you try to Xfire that issues really start to creep up. You'll do just fine with it

It seems the 78xx series has the problems and its weird, my 7950 ran flawless, but it was an XFX and died lol....

Its a shame though, I reallllllllly liked the 7850, I had it up to 60 points of my 660Ti in Heaven but its not fun grabbing a beer and coming back to a friggin black screen of death.
