Hey all i grabbed this off ebay for $73. I ran 3dmark 03 and it says hyperthreading available-disabled Any idea on how i could enable hyperthreading on this cpu thanx,
 
sometimes when it says that
its talking about ur board supporting hyperthreading not the cpu

what fsb was the 2.8ghz, was it 533MHz or 800MHz

Yeah, I have a P4 2.8 ES @533 too. It's non-HT. I don't think HT is very useful.

yes it is. I've played around with my 3.06Ghz on my work PC. Benchmarked it with & with out HT, and just tried day to day use just to see. 3dMark2001 had a higher score with HT off, most other things were about the same. But I could notice the difference in day to day use with HT on/off. Things were much smoother with HT. I multi-task a lot. Right now, I have about 10 browser windows open (one with real time streaming stock quotes), AIM, Outlook Express, Word, 2 Excel spreadsheets, etc..

Unfortunately you probably don't have it since 3.06's were the only 533FSB with HT. Unless it is some weird ES that they enabled it on. But probably not.
 
Check your BIOS on your motherboard to see if you can enable it. There are some ES chips out there with oddball speeds and HT. I have a 2.66Ghz ES 533fsb that has HT enabled so I know for a fact they are out there.
 
again this is below 520 which is the base speed that has HT on it in the LGA socket
p4 520 = 2.8ghz/1mb/800mhz
anything below this speed does not have HT
if its below 800mhz fsb it is not HT
unless it is a mobile pentium 4 (mobile prescott) cuz they are 533mhz but mobile
any of the other 533mhz cpu's besides for the old northwood 533mhz 3.06ghz do not support HT
