"Google Compute is a feature of the Google Toolbar that enables your computer to help solve challenging scientific problems when it would otherwise be idle. When you enable Google Compute, your computer will download a small piece of a large research project and perform calculations on it that will then be included with the calculations performed by thousands of other computers doing the same thing. This process is known as distributed computing.

The first beneficiary of this effort is Folding@home, a non-profit academic research project at Stanford University that is trying to understand the structure of proteins so they can develop better treatments for a number of illnesses. In the future Google Compute may allow you to also donate your computing time to other carefully selected worthwhile endeavors, including projects to improve Google and its services. "

They have be doing this for quite a while now... at least a year i *think*

If you look here:
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teamstats

You notice that Google toolbar folks have outproduced, OCAU and the [H]orde, combined. The default, or I don't want to join a team folks, are still in first. Toiling in solitude doesn't sound like much fun. I jumped over to the [H]orde from MaximumPC, because they didn't seem like much fun. When I came over here, Relic was still inspiring us. Fortunately others have taken up the flag, hopefully, not of a fallen comrade. His machines still fold, but his voice has been silent. Hopefully he's OK.

Isn't google itself comprised of 1000s of nodes? I'm sure that helped them get their numbers up quick.

//thread steal//

yall have been ontopic in way to many posts lately.
and we need to start finding new people to join the [H]orde..
and how about some cheese cake? mmm.

\\end steal\\
pwned!!

Hopefully that 3rd line contains a spelling mistake.

oh hush.
its early in the morning..

You have no idea how true those words are! Anyhow, you've got to give to Google to package something useful with their toolbar. Didn't someone at some point figure out how to edit the code of that to fold under whatever team you wanted?

I cant. I have a real job i have to show up to.
I have to pay the bills :)

but if i didnt.. i wouldnt have gotten up today ;)

I could never convince myself to spend the kind of cash I've spent on running D.C. projects to purchase lottery tickets. However if I did I probably would have won something substantial by now. :D

I use the google toolbar to my advantage, it is set to fold for team 33, which is the [H]orde.

How did you do this? Reg tweak? Please advise.

Nevermind, I stand incorrect at my findings. I know at one time it worked, somehow I did something to get it to fold for team 33 one day.

It went for about three days crunching frames, and then it up and restarted. Something saying googlefahcore was invalid and it reverted back to it's default settings. So I never went back to playing around with the google toolbar on iexplorer. I switched from that and now use firefox.

Back in the day it was a simple reg tweak, but then occasionally Google updates their software and the reg tweak needs to change.
Remember, Google came from Stanford, and this was worked out about 2002.
That was back during the Genome Wars, if I remember correctly

Isn't Genome Wars the working title of Star Wars Episode 7? I heard it was "Genome Wars: Return of the [H]orde".

No - it's going to be the next of Gov. Schwarzenegger's movies. "Genome Wars: Stanford and the [H]orde conquer disease"
